Not bad overall

I'm getting sort of peeved (understatement) because my brain seems to be shutting down. And not in its usual way. In a whole new bizarre terrifying way. The Starsky & Hutch DVD I borrowed from Blockbuster is missing. I remember watching it in my room with my brothers around last Wednesday or Thursday, and after that, nothing. I tore around my room looking for it last night and again this morning, almost making myself late for my interview at Shakespeare & Co. I also lost my bottle of water that I was carrying around with me last night. One moment I'm carrying the purple Eddie Bauer bottle half-filled with ice upstairs with me, droplets of water falling from it onto the carpet of the steps, the next minute...nothing. It's like I blanked out on it. Sort of the way I blanked out on the fact that I carried Starsky and Hutch back to Blockbuster five days ago because it was a three-day rental. And the way I tried to walk straight through the subway turnstile today without even thinking about swiping my card. A part of me knew what I was doing wouldn't work, I think, which is why I didn't barrel through it like I usually do. But the bar still did a bit of a number on my hips. I'm hoping it's just stress and lack of sleep that's making me so scatterbrained. Because it's slightly frightening.

On other fronts - today's been pretty alright. One of the more fulfilling and satisfying days I've had in a good long while. I planned on going to the interview at Shake & Co., and then hitting some gaming stores in the immediate vicinity afterwards to drop off my resume. To that effect I wanted to look my best...only I really had nothing to wear short of the same old tired white cotton shirt, black slacks, and Roach Stomper Sketchers I wear to Radioshack all the time. I detest the clothes, because the shirt always wrinkles horribly, especially around the shoulder where I perch my purse, but I never found the motivation to pick up something more presentable to wear, figuring I would be leaving Le Shack soon. Nine months later...*sigh*. Anyway, I put my clothes on and headed out, resumes and lists of EBGames around 68th and Lexington in hand (or, rather, purse).

The "interview" I was worried about was no interview at all. I sat down with Liz, the hiring manager, she asked me what days I could work, told me the perks of the job (textbooks can be purchased at cost and all other books in the store are 40% off), asked me when I could start, and that was it. Five minutes, tops. I stopped briefly in Career Development across the street at Hunter, dropped off my resume for a Admin. Ass. position in the Continuing Ed. Dept, then decided to find the EB on 71st and 3rd to drop off my goods. It was closer than I though, and was a total dank hole-in-the-wall. No sunshine at all. I was almost glad when the guy behind the counter told me that particular EB wasn't hiring, but he directed me to the one in Union Square. Apparently EB was opening five or six more stores in the the city, and a number of stores were going to need help because of the staffing shift that was occurring due to that. Another kind gentlemen who heard my inquiry told me that Sloan-Kettering Medical was also hiring. I've been over there in the past and I knew that the hours usually didn't mesh well with going to class (99% of the shifts offered are full-time and 9-5, Monday-Friday) but I figured, hey, I was in the vicinity; why not?

I passed by Cornell Medical's Human Resources first, seeing as I had some experience there in the past and I really loved the view of the Hudson it afforded you. Like before I applied for all the Lab Assistant positions that didn't call for previous experience and I'm certain that, like before, I won't be called back. When I went to Sloan-Kettering there was nothing available that I could fit into my schedule, so thanks, random dude in EB. Least I got a nice walk down to 1st Ave for all my troubles.

Went down to Union Square's EB and was informed that *they* specifically weren't hiring, but the corporation was hiring for the new stores. That information conflicted with the tidbit the kind gentleman on 71st and 1st told me, that being the positions in the new EBs were being filled by current EB staff. I'm inclined to think the first guy was correct. Companies usually never stock a new store full of fresh blood, because the logistics of trying to run a store with no one but clueless lemmings is nightmarish. Either way, though, it all comes down to me wanting desperately to work in a gaming store. It'd be like joygasm heaven. If I'm going to be dealing with the public I'd much rather be working in a gaming store than a book store, seeing as you're less likely to run into pretentious twats in a gaming store. Well, unmanageable pretentious twats. In a gaming store you can usually tell the more annoying customers to go home, use some face wash, and lay off the masturbation to shut them up. Right. So I filled out the app, added my resume, and then left. I intend to head back there on Friday or so to pick up another app and then also apply at a Gamestop and see what happens.

The way home I was met with torrential rain, high winds, and general weariness. But the good kind. And I do so like the rain. Fun fun happy time.
