I know I'm a punk. I know it. Thanks for sticking around, those of you who have, you know, stuck around.

A poll! Because they're generally met with clicky glee. I want to buy a laptop. Not a desktop replacement, but something nice and portable that I can use to write papers on and/or play the occasional game (Sims, anyone?). Testimonials and/or words of warning much appreciated. I'm curious as to what brands you guys would rec.

[Poll #963977]

The Wii Internet thing...what's up with that? I sent [livejournal.com profile] klaw a message, and it seems he's the only one who I can "hit up", so to speak. I'm underwhelmed.

I always recomend Macs. More espensive? Yes. But also more reliable and user friendly, and the iLife programs are very nice. Depending on how much you want to game on it though, you might be better off going with a PC, since there are many more games available.

I'm speaking from desktop and laptop experience here. My old desktop was a Dell. It was a beautiful thing. I regret not sticking with the brand for my laptop.

I have a HP laptop, and I would advise for you to stay far away from that if possible. My shitty computer has put me through so much hell in these past 10 months I've had it. Matter of fact, I was having problems with it today. My hard drive busted after 9 months. So definitely avoid HP.

Dell is my biggest recommendation. (: Happy Laptop Hunting!

Do you have WiiConnect24 enabled? And have you confirmed everyone else, and they're showing up in bold?

Until both ends have confirmed and have made contact, so to speak, it'll keep working weirdly.

Mac harddrives are not trustworthy. Sure, they replace it for you, but that doesn't change the fact that you have to plan for your HD to crap out every year or so.

Dell's desktops are excellent, but their laptops are not as much so. I know a lot of people who found their Dell laptop less than satisfactory, when compared to their desktops.

I have a Thinkpad (IBM, which has spun off Lenovo as the manufacturer.) This is my second Thinkpad. I got the first one in 1999 and used it until a year and a half ago, when I got this one. They are tanks, and they are mighty. Give 'em a look -- and make sure you get Win XP. Don't let them give you Vista, it's a piece of shit and not worth the hassle until at least the first Service Pack comes out.

I'm totally tracking this. Why? As an early birthday present, Dan is getting me a laptop with some friends and family this weekend! He rules!

And you know, you rock, for reading my mind and posting this poll.

Don't do it!

DON'T GET A DELL!

Thanks for the poll. I'm hoping the hubby gets me a laptop soon. He's in the IT industry so is in the know of what's good. He says Dell's aren't good. I was looking at one...he says I'd like an HP better or a Sony.

yeah, i dont have whatever it takes to do the wii thing, so no go :(

NO DELL! My former roommate got one and it COMPLETELY died -- you guess it -- right after the warranty ended. Funny how that works.

Oh, if you don't want an Apple, my vote is for the VAIO. My dad had one from work that lasted ages. It was pretty damned slow whenever I'd use it when I was visiting for Christmas, but any laptop that lasts 7+ years is pretty impressive to me.
