It's sometimes difficult to figure out when to get attention for pain that's not caused by an injury. When I had an appendicitis, I went around for a full day, assuming I had gas or cramps. It was only when I realized I couldn't lie down without pain so intense it made me burst into tears that I realized I needed to go to the hospital. And you're right there in the hospital. That would make me feel so awful about the co-worker who coded and died, even if I didn't know her at all. I'd feel sad, frustrated, and maybe even a little helpless.
