I should be sleeping

Gaiman talks about how time changes authors and their works in his blog, quoting G.K. Chesterton , and adds "...which is, I think, the problem that many readers have with Cerebus (a narrative created over nearly 30 years), and would have certainly been the problem with Sandman if I'd kept writing it -- that I was no longer the person who had started it a decade before."

I had no clue Cerebus was laid out over such a long time. Makes sense, though. I don't think my issue with the series necessarily traces back to changes in the author's state of mind, but with the way in which Sim decided to show it on the page. I'm pretty sure I recall pages of Church and State that consist of Cerebus standing still while huge bubbles of dialogue condemning organized religion hang around him. At that point you've left the venue of comic/graphic novel and should just start with the novelization. Don't get me wrong, I *liked* that our favorite anthropomorphized aardvark wasn't just swinging his sword and rescuing maidens, but the line between work of fiction and author's mouthpiece/soapbox got blurred beyond all recognition.

Wait...Dumbledore:Grindelwald::Roku:Sozin...??? Fandom is funny.

This NaNo thing, you can't really pretend it's schoolwork and stay up late the night before the "due date" drinking coffee and cursing the world while slaving over a keyboard, can you?

My attempt at Nano-ing will have to wait for the weekend. I haven't got the time to pound out 2000 words a day, I'll have to cram. Which probably won't work, but meh. I'll give it a bash.

I love the icon:)
Toph is probably my favorite character on the show.

And I still can't make it past the first phone book to the point where Sim reportedly lost his perspective on the women being human beings thing...

Oddly, I have a Cerebus-as-librarian sketch. Felt vaguely like a traitor to the gender until I'd picked it up (Ken had made the request while I was working) - and Dave was very much the gentleman.

So yeah, mystified.

Nope, you can't. The word count is definitely a mixed blessing. Good luck!

And in answer to your question, Lucy Anne = Lucien. Which is pronounced closer to Lou Shean, apparently, but being a silly New Yorker, had thought it was more like Lu Cyanne.

Actually, I think that this is one of the requirements. ;)

Sure you can! At the rate I'm going, it's pretty much my only hope.
