Comedy for DAYS

Fifteen minutes in, and Sarah Palin is officially the most hilarious thing I've seen on television this Fall. Do they not have things like debates in Alaska? Methinks the concept escapes her and her handlers. Or they think she's such an empty bag that they're afraid to have her spout anything but platitudes. "Let me speak straight to the American people..."? OMG.

She's got a one-track mind, it seems. Taxes, taxes, taxes.

There's a new debate drinking game for teetotalers, I hear. You take a shot every time Palin actually answers a question.

For. The. WIN.

...is she saying "nukular"? omg. omg.

She has a mind and not a teleprompter? News to me.

Teleprompters at debates? You really think so? I think she'd have a Bill O'Riley breakdown if she were really trying to go by one.

LOL, more sober than a judge, you'll be.

I couldn't bring myself to watch.

[identity profile] atraxia.livejournal.com 2008-10-03 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
i was reading another blog - and people were commenting that it looks like she's reading from notecards. no wonder she isn't answering any questions.

[identity profile] fredericks.livejournal.com 2008-10-03 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
*grin* As in, she just regurgitates what's put in front of her.
O'Reilly is also part of my hilarity brigade.

[identity profile] fredericks.livejournal.com 2008-10-03 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
I started out completely focused on the debate UNTIL the first 15 minutes, at which point I cued up the closed captioning and started watching Iron Man on my laptop. Occasionally the idiocy would distract me from all the shiny on my computer and I'd throw out a curse.

[identity profile] fredericks.livejournal.com 2008-10-03 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
SERIOUS drinking game material.
These debates are way too restrained. I need a Jerry Springer-like atmosphere to keep myself motivated in 'em. They're all saying the same things without actually *picking at* the rhetoric of their opponents.

Looked like both her and Biden had notecards on their platform with key points jotted down. But Biden at least came across more spontaneous than she did.

Hee! My mom just said Palin looked like she's been propped up on Prozac and she was rushing to say her points before she forgot them. We were both upset Biden didn't throw out anything crazy.

[identity profile] raptorgirl.livejournal.com 2008-10-03 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
I know, how hilarious was that?

I love your icon!

Harold Saxon!

I canNOT handle anyone in the White House who says that! nu--clee--ur!!!!!11111

We played talking point bingo while we watched. I had a Biden card and won with 'clean energy', 'Scranton' (free space), 'offshore drilling', and 'literally'.

I would have been happier had she brought more funny. But a) there was the teacher thing ('Your wife will get her reward in heaven'), which I think is more sad than funny, really and b) 'You keep pointing your finger at the past, Joe' while he was talking about the *current* president.

All Frank and I could stand was 15 minutes then we turned it off. By that point she had already referred to McCain as a "maverick" twice and said the word "hockey moms". We decided that if they win we're moving to Switzerland.

[identity profile] mersipan.livejournal.com 2008-10-03 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yer darn tootin'!

I especially loved how she was all, "look, I'm not answering the question you ASKED, just gonna spout the stuff they prompted me on - straight at the Amurikan people."

Folksy, I've decided, is a thinly-veiled euphemism for stupid.

Was that the one they had up at the AV Club? (http://www.avclub.com/content/blog/sarah_palin_bingo) If this debate had been held on a Friday I would have gotten a drinking game going. As it was I just sat and let it wash over me.

I really hope they don't win.

[identity profile] fredericks.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe I'll join y'all.
It's not that she's not eloquent, it's just that she spouts absurdities. And she's been schooled to spout these things, so it's not like they couldn't have taught her to say things of intelligence that can also pander to the "common folk". Jesus.

It was *very* similar, but not identical (mostly just because of different fonts and stuff). There was no drinking, since it was a) Thursday, and one out of four people was a non-drinker anyway.

And of course I really hope they don't win, either. Sarah is funny in theory, but scary in practice. (And McCain is just an angry old man in so many ways.)

[identity profile] fredericks.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
What's startling is that a number of the Republican pundits think/thought Palin did a "great job". Yes, because I want someone who's concerned with reaching "Joe SixPack" taking part in diplomatic missions with foreign nations. Maverick. Mein gott.

[identity profile] xioley.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
And I just commented anonymously. So that was me.

You take Bush and Cheney, for instance: I dislike Bush and I absolutely detest Cheney, but I can see Cheney leading this nation if shit went down. Hells, we all know dude did tons of work before his ticker went all wonky. Palin seems like such a ditz I'm afraid to even contemplate being Riker to McCain's Picard. Their powers combined, and all that jazz.

I was linked to this LJ entry about Joe Six-Pack. It's a really insulting name, when you think about it.
