I've checked out some of the Meetups over here. Problem is the groups are generally massive, and in the few experiences I've had everyone knows everyone else and it's hard to insinuate oneself. But maybe I'll find one that works okay in the near future.

One of the sucky things about the timing for my party is that the gas shortage in the area is putting quite a hamper on planning and getting guests over. It's hard to justify having people drive miles over if they have to wait 2 hours on line for gas.
