Pain
It's 12:10 at night and my father is outside raking up our dirt. That's all I have to say on the matter.
Spent an enormous amount of time on public transportation today. Went to Geico's HQ in Woodbury today for a second interview. The position I was initially interested in, I was informed during the screening interview, was filled, so I was stuck trying out for an entry-level spot that paid six thousand less. I had to do a bit of running around before getting out there, so I was worried that I'd be late. A definite no-no, since I'd made sure to highlight how punctual I am to everything in my resume and to the interviewer. The ride out there? enormously long. Generally I take the Q2 to the N22 to the N79, a trip that totals an hour and forty-five minutes if I get everything without much wait. But, my take is, anything's better than Radioshack and I figure to have a license and a car before I start classes, reducing my trek time by at least an hour.
Got there on time and was briefed by the interviewer (a different one) before we began. Apparently my test scores (they give computerized reading comp. and comp. skill assessment tests in the screener) were excellent, and that coupled with my degree made me an ideal candidate for the more advanced position I was looking at when I first came in. So the positions weren't filled, they were just being selective and disgustingly snobby with them. I would have gone for that instead, since the job seemed so darn interesting. It's an advanced claim examiner position, so you'd call up accident victims, witnesses, read through police reports and medical files, etc etc, in order to determine the correct course of action for the company. Main problem? The job is from 8 to 4, Monday through Friday, impossible if I wanted to go to school full-time. I decided to continue with my attempt at the entry-level pos, because the hours were from 2-9PM and 4-11:45PM (with the second looking the most favorable).
Blah blah blah, interview done. The interviewer gave me high marks and scheduled me for a third interview tomorrow, where I get to see the job in action and get to meet with my possible shift manager. He/She's the one that decides whether or not I get the job, ultimately. The interviewer seemed really supportive, though, and told me to just be enthusiastic and ask questions and I should be fine. Hopefully. Transportation is the biggest problem in this equation, but even if I do have to shell out bucks for cabs, I still end up taking home more than double what I'd get at RS.
On the way out out Geico's doors I got hit with one of the worse headaches I can remember. I figure it was a combination of stress, lack of sleep, and lack of a meal - nasty stuff. Conversation was painful; my brother called me for something that seemed idiotic and I wanted to leap through the phone and strangle him, my head hurt so much just trying to talk. I came home, ate a bit, then crawled into my bed. Woke up a little while ago with the worst of it over, although my concentration's shifty and things still seem cloudy around the edges.
Tomorrow, along with my third Geico interview, is a stupid punishment meeting for RS Associates that didn't sell enough cellphones for the month to date. It riles my stomach just thinking about it. Tomorrow is going to be the longest day ever.
