Quite alive, thankyoueversomuch.

My first shift back post "omg I'm gonna CODE" was horrible. Shit, I can't even pad that...well, no, it *could* have been worse. But, yeah, 'twas pretty crappy. Ten minutes after shift started there was a code on the floor. The code lasted roughly an hour and a half and the patient didn't end up making it. Then one of my patients was non-response to a hard-ass sternal rub and one of the more experienced nurses took it upon herself to call a code on said patient, which luckily ended up being a false alarm (this patient had a trach that needed some lavage and hardcore suctioning). I got stuck on the side with nine patient. Three of my patients had PEGs, two of those PEG patients had trachs, both of the PEG/trach patients were on the shitty side of the health scale, but only one of those patients was DNR. The time not spent suctioning was spent transfusing the DNR patient. I didn't end up leaving the floor until 9:30. The next day was marginally better, but when I left the DNR patient had suddenly started bleeding from around her trach site. I'm back in tonight and I hope to God I get moved to another side. There's only so much I can take.

Monday evening was The True Colors Tour at Radio City which was frickin' amazing. The Gossip got things started and they rocked fairly hard. Next came The Dresden Dolls and they were okay, although I didn't feel too guilty taking a BR break during their set. Deborah Harry followed and, Jebus, if anyone reading this is going to check out the tour at some point in the future you should know that DH plays right before a 15 minute intermission so feel free to leave right before she starts if you want to head out and get something to eat. Erasure and Cyndi Lauper (the wonderful lady who conceived of the tour) closed out the show and I'm pretty sure I stood and shook my ass during the entirety of their sets. I didn't think to bring my camera but the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] laughingirl sat right in front of me and might have some posted pics later that I'll link to. Just a fun fun night and, if possible, y'all should check it out.

Tuesday evening was the [livejournal.com profile] nycbookclub meeting and, man, also tons of fun. All sorts of surreal, with watching homeless guys/DUMBO artists stripping wires using a saw, a street sign, and brute force on the corner of Madison and 30th, grabbing Mexican afterward and being regaled by horrible wannabe standup comics while in the basement, and laughing very very hard through it all. Oprah's Book Club has nothing on us.

So, that brings me to today. Lawd have mercy on my soul. I wish I had a couple more days off at this point. I'd love to take in a Mets game right about now.

You're in for a great time. Just take my advice on booking it out of the theatre before/during Debbie Harry's set. Trust me; it's for your own good.

I should join a book club sometime. That way maybe I could be arsed to start reading something other than graphic novels or magazine articles. Like a real novel. Of course, the trick is to find a book club of like-minded people. In my town that's pretty hard to do.

The discussion groups over at Barnes and Noble.com look like they're pretty interesting.
