Numbered and ready to go

1. The brolets and I saw "Transformers" today. Even knowing the original Transformers cartoon was conceived as a marketing ploy for Hasbro toys I expected something more than what I was presented with, which was bad dialogue, plot holes so large Unicron'd have no problem slipping through, and a blatant disregard for any sort of continuity. I kept comparing the cartoon movie (COMPLETELY kick-ass, btw) to the Bay production I'd decided to sit through and no doubt have enough griping for a nerdish face-off post between the two, but it's two in the morning and I'm out-of-sorts. Long story short - shut off your brain entirely and you'll enjoy yourself. Or do yourself a favor and go see "Ratatouille".

2. The cleaned up versions of Star Wars IV, V, and VI piss me off. Why clean it up? And the insertion of the CGI stands out in a jarring manner.

On another note - God, Luke is such a punk.

3. Possible casting news for The Watchmen. Kate Winslet AND Patrick Wilson? They're my Hollywood S.O.'s, y'all. Fo'. Serious. Virginia Madsen would be perfect as Sally Jupiter. The only choice that as me raising my eyebrow? Gretchen Mol. If this is true it's another checkmark in the column under "'Yea' for a deity".

4. There's a Kwik-E-Mart on 42nd Street and 8th Avenue. I will be swinging by to pick up Krusty-Os and Buzz Cola some time this week.

5. I'm uncertain whether the repeated actions that result in me getting burned by others is caused by my overarching faith in humanity or my overwhelming stupidity. Perhaps a little of both. At this point I sort of don't care.

6. I work one additional shift this week (tomorrow) and then was originally scheduled off until next week Wednesday, but the manager for another floor came by looking for nurses to work overtime and I signed up for a shift on Monday. Time and a half, baby! I'm in need of it, as I just paid flight and hotel fees for the planned Vegas trip.

I think about any artist, and how their earlier work tends to be less evolved than their latest stuff. To go back and say "oh, I'm just inserting new CGI because this is the sort of stuff I envisioned all along" is one thing. But to essentially make changes in the script and narrative is a whole 'nother thing, and Lucas took it upon himself to do all of the above in varying degrees. The only SW I'd think of buying is Empire, and that's only if I can get my hands on the pre-change version.
