1. The brolets and I saw "Transformers" today. Even knowing the original Transformers cartoon was conceived as a marketing ploy for Hasbro toys I expected something more than what I was presented with, which was bad dialogue, plot holes so large Unicron'd have no problem slipping through, and a blatant disregard for any sort of continuity. I kept comparing the cartoon movie (COMPLETELY kick-ass, btw) to the Bay production I'd decided to sit through and no doubt have enough griping for a nerdish face-off post between the two, but it's two in the morning and I'm out-of-sorts. Long story short - shut off your brain entirely and you'll enjoy yourself. Or do yourself a favor and go see "Ratatouille".

2. The cleaned up versions of Star Wars IV, V, and VI piss me off. Why clean it up? And the insertion of the CGI stands out in a jarring manner.

On another note - God, Luke is such a punk.

3. Possible casting news for The Watchmen. Kate Winslet AND Patrick Wilson? They're my Hollywood S.O.'s, y'all. Fo'. Serious. Virginia Madsen would be perfect as Sally Jupiter. The only choice that as me raising my eyebrow? Gretchen Mol. If this is true it's another checkmark in the column under "'Yea' for a deity".

4. There's a Kwik-E-Mart on 42nd Street and 8th Avenue. I will be swinging by to pick up Krusty-Os and Buzz Cola some time this week.

5. I'm uncertain whether the repeated actions that result in me getting burned by others is caused by my overarching faith in humanity or my overwhelming stupidity. Perhaps a little of both. At this point I sort of don't care.

6. I work one additional shift this week (tomorrow) and then was originally scheduled off until next week Wednesday, but the manager for another floor came by looking for nurses to work overtime and I signed up for a shift on Monday. Time and a half, baby! I'm in need of it, as I just paid flight and hotel fees for the planned Vegas trip.

I am going to see Transformers today with some friends and I have been waffling back and forth about seeing it due to my worry about ana lack of continuity.

*grin* The continuity issue will probably be the last thing you focus on, so if that's your only concern you shouldn't have a problem. There's one scene of hilarious correlation with the animated movie that's almost worth half the price of admission. Ah hells, I hope you see it and post about it. Just don't pay full-price. REALLY not worth your entire 9-10 bucks.

I think the Marts will be around for a month or so. When I go I'll ask if they'll be there into August.

And no need for the sorry re: Transformers. There still is Harry Potter. :)

The cleaned up Star Wars movies make me mad too.
The glaring CGI, replacing the original Anakin guy with Hayden Whats-his-name (who sucked major ass, in my opinion), changing Boba Fett's voice....SO many things piss me off about them.
Oh well. All I can say is thank God for the original version dvds. :D

I'm supposed to go see Transformers with some friends tomorrow. Luckily, since I've never seen the original movie or the cartoon, I have absolutely no expectations that might be crushed. All I know about it is that annoying commercial jingle for the toys that was around a zillion years ago.

They replaced the guy playing Vader?!? Man, I didn't even get that far. I stopped watching a little more than halfway through IV. The Jaba scene was weird, the new CGI'd animals was weird, the hovercraft was all snazzy and Anakin-like...there was only so much I could take.

You should really check out the animated movie. It's rather entertaining, 80's rock pop soundtrack included. Leonary Nemoy, Eric Idle, and Orson Welles (yes, THE Orson Welles) are some of the more famous people to lend their vocal talents.

Yep. At the end of "Return of the Jedi" when Luke sees the ghosts of Yoda, Obi wan, and Anakin they replaced the original guy with that atrocious new kid. Yuck.

I have to say that one of the reasons I agreed to see the new one was that I heard Hugo Weaving was doing one of the voices. Hehehe

1) Don't plan on seeing Transformers, but I totally agree that Ratatouille is the movie to see. I enjoyed it!

4) That is awesome!

I applauded when the credits for Ratatouille rolled. I haven't done that for a movie in forever. It's not a very heavy movie, but it's enjoyable and moving and looks damn good on the screen. A nice lemonade-y summer flick. I bought the soundtrack when I came home and listened to it a couple of times.

Yeah, from what I hear Fox is really going to go all out on PR/viral marketing for the Simpsons Movie. And you know what? I don't care. I lost faith in The Simpsons right around the time OMG TONY HAWK guest-starred for the umpteenth time. The Simpsons used to be hilarious and talented. No more. They used to poke fun at Fox's lowest-common-denominator entertainment. Now they ARE that entertainment. It's sad. And this is coming from a guy who once upon a time bought every Simpsons episode made (at the time) on a set of CD-Rs on Ebay.

So I am not in the least looking forward to this movie. I dunno. It's kinda sad, because I used to REALLY love The Simpsons. I guess old school Simpsons is still good. Pre-Season 10 or so.

I'm pretty convinced the Simpsons movie will be horrible. Nowadays I don't think the Simpsons PTB can make a watchable 22 minute TV show, let alone keep my attention for 90 minutes straight. But the whole Kwik-E-Mart thing is cool.

I don’t like the fact that those Star Wars movies were changed, and that’s not because I’m a purist, but I think that it’s silly to go back and change such iconic movies. Now if there was a glaring error that could be improved, then okay, but adding things like that singing whatever it was...eh. I’ve been wanting to buy the Star Wars DVDs, but I’m confused about which ones to buy, if any because of all of these ‘revisions.’

I think about any artist, and how their earlier work tends to be less evolved than their latest stuff. To go back and say "oh, I'm just inserting new CGI because this is the sort of stuff I envisioned all along" is one thing. But to essentially make changes in the script and narrative is a whole 'nother thing, and Lucas took it upon himself to do all of the above in varying degrees. The only SW I'd think of buying is Empire, and that's only if I can get my hands on the pre-change version.
