Post-IKEA

Work = horrible. It's been a theme lately, as we're short-staffed with people going vacation and all that patient-endangering jazz. In an attempt to boost my spirits the mom unit and I went to Ikea. At the moment I'm sort of Ikea'd out. Pretentious names of items aside, it's a fun place to visit. Tons of families were out and about when we went. And I finally got around to purchasing most of the furniture I wanted (the corner desk set I wanted was unavailable). The delivery folks are supposed to bring it by sometime Tuesday; the only things I took home were the very comfy swivel chair and the desk lamp. I figured since I have the furniture I might as well get around to pulling up the carpet and repainting the room. I'll post pictures occasionally as I work through the project. Knowing my pace and recent lack of energy it'll prolly take me two or three weeks to do everything, but meh. I'll see if I can get rid of the carpet, tidy a bit, and pick up all my paint supplies today.

What's the standard tipping procedure for delivery folk anyway?

Indeed. I feel edjumicated. :)

Mom dukes and I picked up soda from the fountain while we waited for some of the furniture. She noted it was plain Coke and said it should have some weird-ass name like all the other stuff in the store. I was in full agreement.

I have never been to an IKEA. We don't have them down here. I also have no idea about tipping. We don't do that for delivery drivers since they charge delivery fees. Also, your book is on the way! and I am gonna be in NY from the 6-10 of august. We are planning a trip to the city (me and onecrazysinski and possibly ecologyninja) wanna meet for coffee if it fits your schedule? We plan on skipping most of the cultural things this time and hitting comic and toy stores instead!

Awesome! I'd love to meet up and/or engage in comic tours with you guys. Either Midtown location and Jim Henley's World should be included in your sojourns. Once I get my work schedule for next month (sometime next week) I can tell you how things shape up.

And you should TOTALLY go to the American Museum of Natural History. The Mystic Creatures exhibit is very engaging. As soon as you walk in the first thing you're hit with is a large beautiful dragon state. I'd have taken pictures but cameras weren't allowed in that area. :( Spend 30 bucks and get a pass to all the exhibits. You head there at opening (10AM) and you'll find more than enough stuff to engage you until closing (5:30 or so). I picked up two souvenirs for you. I'll mail then down or I can just hand them over when we meet.

I loooove Ikea. And I find the pretentious names are half the fun. I always gleefully referring to new shelving units by their Swedish Chef-like names for a week or two after I get them home.

*grin* I like calling out the names in a loud semi-obnoxious voice while IN the store. To my company, of course. And the cafeteria can't be beat.
