*backflips*!

D'you smell that? That "new job" smell? It is coming from me!! Oh, fuck yeah!! I RAWK THE GODDAMN HOUSE!!

There really aren't many specifics: went there, handed in my resume, filled out their paperwork, took and passed some random test, sat for a screening interview, met with the supervisor, and BOOM, booyah, they offered me a position. More money and I get to work days. The one downer? I go from flex overnight shifts (3/4 days a week, 12 hour shifts) to M-F 8 - 4 and one weekend a month. The work seems so much less pressured, though. Just thinking of it has me floating on air.

Oh, the other downer: I have to find a way to give my job notice (as far as I can tell I can start whenever I'd like within reason) AND get 2 references from my managers out of the deal. Anyone have any experience with this and can lend me some advice?

Congrats!

(Hopefully someone else will give you actual advice.)

[identity profile] fredericks.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I think I just have to grovel and be as polite as possible. I'm going to give them a month and a half's notice, so maybe that'll soothe the way.

Congrats!
(not a clue how to ask for the references unless you tell them it's for university - and even then that's assuming they come to the table)

[identity profile] fredericks.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 08:09 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks!
I have three managers (heh). I know one of them will be cool; the others? I dunno. If I can get one I'll be okay, maybe. And then ask someone else for a personal reference.

[identity profile] stormbringer986.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! Congrats!!

Yay! Congratulations! As for the references - it really depends on the sort of managers you have. If they're not nutto crazies that will think you are betraying them by leaving, then I'd just say, "I plan on giving notice about my resignation soon. I like working here, but it can be a very stressful atmosphere and I don't know if I can handle that long-term. It would be best for everyone if I found a position that fit me better. The place I will be going has requested two references from my managers. Would you mind helping me with that?" If they are psycho crazies that will hate you for quitting and make things difficult with the reference situation, then you might have to go the dishonest route and find a way to weasel them out of the reference before you tell them about giving notice. Maybe say you are trying to get accepted to some sort of educational program or maybe even say that you are applying for a grant for something or other, and that ___ requires two references.

Yay for the job! Boo for the references snag!

[identity profile] fredericks.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! Yay for the job indeed. :)
I should be able to get one reference from one of my managers. The other ones? might fit in the psycho crazy categories. I'll see how things go.

WWWWOOOOOOOHHHHOOOOoOoO!!!!

Congrats! Good for you!

On the notice and reference thing. In my experience, just tell them that you have the opportunity to make more money with a steadier schedule and that hopefully the work you have done up until now will enable them to give you a good reference. I've only had one person refuse to give me a reference just because I gave notice. most supervisors realize that people need to be able to make more money. I hope they aren't assholes about it for you!
So when do we go have starbucks and celebrate?!

[identity profile] fredericks.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 08:18 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks!

I don't think I'll mention the increase in income, but I will say (truthfully) that I enjoyed being a nurse however the stress of working on the floor didn't agree with me at all. That I've been having headaches during the last two weeks while on the job, and the schedule didn't agree with me. What I won't mention is the fact that the chattering co-workers made me want to go ballistic and they really seemed to care less about nurses furthering their education. I'll also refrain from cackling madly.

And we'll totally do the coffee thing...most likely during Comic-Con! Yayz!
Hope you're hanging in there with the intense work schedule.

[identity profile] army-kitten.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
WOOT WOOT!

congratulations!!!!

there is nothing quite like a regular schedule, especially one that has you working daylight hours (yum, circadian rhythms). good luck with getting your references. :D

[identity profile] fredericks.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 08:19 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! :)

I haven't worked a regular schedule in a while. It'll be novel having to work 20+ days in a month.

Congrats!!

A steady 8-4 M-F job is one of those things you never quite appreciate until you lose it. I really wish I could get it back myself, as well as the less stress thing. Work stress = badness.

[identity profile] fredericks.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 08:23 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks!

I've never held a steady 8-4, so I'll see how I deal. But, definitely, less stress is SO the way to go. :)
