Yesterdy afternoon was spent with my mom, grandmother, aunt, and cousin in the suburbs of Philadelphia. We spent a couple of hours in New Hope, a smallish place that reminded me a bit of the College Hill portion of Providence RI prior to the influx of chain stores: small boutiques abounded with a sprinkling of wicca stores, and rainbow flags flew in the breeze. We lunched at a restaurant called Havana that, surprisingly enough, had only one Cuban item on the menu, a "cuban panini" that could vaguely be called authentic aside from the fact that it was called a panini. And it was served with french fries. And the pork tasted a little old. Not an overwhelming dining experience, but the staff was polite and the live music (again, not Cuban, more swing/big band in taste) was nice. I bought a nice fleece-lined knit hat, among other things. The hat was quite welcome today, seeing as it was freezing. Upshot? First snow of the season!

Tomorrow a)Inception comes out on DVD and b) I only work until noon! Happy day.

I've passed through New Hope before, it's a relaxed & groovy kinda place. There's a great shop called Love Saves the Day (a vintage shop with crazy/awesome/practical things and an amazing sense of style/humor) which used to have another branch open in the East Village in NYC, but they closed about 1-2yrs ago, unfortunately. I loved and miss that place so much. =(

I have meant to go back to New Hope and actually eat/shop/hang there, but I haven't had a chance.

*grin* Definitely relaxed and groovy. When we passed the tie dye store my mom said she was reminded of Haight-ashbury. Must have been the incense in the air as well. It's a quaint b&b sort of spot, in that there really isn't much to do besides hang around in restaurants and retreat to one's room with the sig oh.

I don't think we passed the store you mentioned. Then again, we did go in a lot of them and everything blurred together after a while.

what up, you were in my neighboorhood! :D I live just a little south of New Hope (in Doylestown) and work across the river in Lambertville :D It's a cute place, but you can probably tell why I love coming into NYC so much!

Neat! I wish I would have know, I could have bugged you for touristy tips. :) Definitely a cute place, but I can see how it can make a body stir-crazy.

New Hope is pretty fun to walk around, and I love being by the river. the town I live in is kind of the same, although a bit more on the quaint side instead of eccentric (more typical gift shops and pretty neat old theater that plays only indie films). But stir crazy is definitely the right way to put it! I guess I satisfy my need to have urban adventures and quiet homstead this way, lol
