Christmas!

Merry Christmas!!! (the exclamation points are obligatory)
Thank you for the lovely cards [livejournal.com profile] 1x2foralways, [livejournal.com profile] living_kindness, and [livejournal.com profile] candicelbj (Candice, if I could bottle and sell the cuteness in the animated card I swear I'd be a millionaire right now)! Such a great way to enter the day. My cards? still staring me in the face. I mislaid my stamps and I didn't have any funds to buy some more. I hope to hunt them down some time tonight. The cards will be New Years gifts, if nothing else (Three Kings Day, anyone?).

The day hasn't quite started yet even though it's 10:30. We all went to Midnight Mass (even if mine started at 11:00PM) and didn't collectively hit the sack until after 2:30AM. Was a little bummed that the church decided to have "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" as the dismissal; "Joy to the World" imbues me with so much more, well, *joy*. But eh - that's Episcopalians for you.

I digress. From the point of view of an adult, today's a great day. My family is healthy, we're all together, we have food in the cupboards, and we're warm. Wonderful blessed day. The child in me, however, is proclaiming this a pretty lame Christmas. I came downstairs and found one present under the tree - a faux albino alligator skin purse from my uncle and his family. One: I don't usually go around with purses. Two:faux albino alligator skin??? These are the same people that, last year, bought me a brown felt workout suit. This suit was multi-toned in that it was tan but had large paths of dark brown on the inside thigh area of the pants. The dark brown was fairly close to my own complexion so when I ran out of clothing (you know how laundry laziness goes) and was forced to wear the pants around the house my family though my pants had holes in it. Just...no. God bless them, though. I love 'em to death (their kids are so adorable!!), even if they can't find presents I'd like.

I hope everyone's Christmas is/was lovely. Get smashed, sing carols, eat too much fruitcake, all that good stuff.

we had "hark!" as one of the hymns at our service. i sang it like one of the peanuts kids. (because this is what i associate "hark!" with.)

Merry Xmas!

I spent last night working, got home at 7. Woke up and had breakfast at 11. Gonna go catch 2 winks before diner at 4 wth my uncle and grandparents (maybe I'll have some hannukka money w00t!)

The kid in me says that everyyear the holidays become a lil less magical and a lil more mundane.

Have fun tonight! I'll be working again.

The kid in me says that everyyear the holidays become a lil less magical and a lil more mundane.

I was thinking more or less the same thing last night. As I lay in bed I got to remembering how things were when I was younger. The night before Christmas I there'd be so much nervous excitement in me I found it impossible to fall asleep - "what's under the tree? what will I get from my relatives?", yadda yadda. I found it funny and somewhat telling that I never waited until my parents fell asleep so I could sneak downstairs and start unwrapping. I was a good girl; I had to sleep for at least two hours before I allowed myself to go downstairs to peek. It had something to do with feeling like I was completely taken care of. There was never a question that things would work out great on Christmas, because mom and dad could do anything and everything. As I've gotten older my eyes have been opened to the reality of bills and payments and money flow and things just don't hold the same appeal. Add to that the fact that once you've over 16 in my family people simply stop *trying* when it comes to gifts. Not that I'd ever turn down cash, but sometimes a well thought-out gift, no matter how inexpensive, can mean a lot more than a money envelope.

I figured you'd be busy as hell this time of year up until New Years. Good for the wallet, bad for catching up on sleep. Happy Hanukkah! Here's to hoping you get what you desire.

Be talking to you.

And the same to you, A.!

Best wishes and hopes for you and your family.

Having a Merry enough (and lazy enough!) Christmas. Hmmm...but no getting smashed.

Hmmm...but no getting smashed
For the best, no doubt. Your liver thanks you.

Jumping online at my parents' house to say "Merry Crimbo!"

I used to go to Midnight Mass when I was younger - and I'm as unreligious is as possible. Usually started around 11pm here too. I think the point for us, was it to have been going on as midnight hit...

So, question - something I think I've noticed.
Has your haul gotten smaller as you've aged, yet your parents' gotten larger?

Merry Crimbo?

[identity profile] fredericks.livejournal.com 2005-12-26 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe it's an Anglican thing. My folks go to the Catholic church and their midnight mass literally starts at midnight. I actually much prefer the 11 start, as there's less chance of falling asleep on yourself.

Has your haul gotten smaller as you've aged, yet your parents' gotten larger?
YES. Yes it has. I think it has something to do with my parents getting me less and my parents kids being of age to buy them things. My parents probably consider it payback for years of hunting down My Little Ponies and EasyBake Ovens.

I hope your Crimbo was bright. I see you got to visit your folks.

lol, I'm glad you liked it :)

I can't say too much about fruitcake, I've never had it. But everyone else tells me it's horrible. You like it?

Midnight Mass sounds like Watchnight service next week. I'm already tired.

I'm glad you had a good day today, even if your inner child slightly disagrees (who blames her?)

I'm curious as to what faux albino alligator skin looks like. I think I'll google it.

[identity profile] fredericks.livejournal.com 2005-12-27 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
Fruitcake? Honestly, I think it gets a bad wrap. If it's made right it's moist and scrumptious. If it's not you can use it as a weapon.

"Watchnight Service"? what's that?

Faux albino alligator skin? Think "ugly".

You're very welcome for the card, dear! Glad to hear your Christmas was nice. (:

No, thank YOU for the card. :)
