This would be funny except it's not

I finally got around to picking up my copy of Half-Blood Prince a couple of days ago (because a girl can only read GNs for so many days in a row before going off the deep end). I'm reading and I'm reading and...I'm rolling my eyes at Rowling's usual heavy verbal exposition but I'm reading and liking...Fine. I'm near the end and the anticipation is building. I can feel it "oh shit" I say to myself, fumbling with my iced coffee, reluctant to take my eyes away from the book. I'm on page 595 and...holey shit! No WAY! I turn the page and there's a big patch of blank below one full paragraph but no chapter opening paragraph on the other page and I think nothing of it. I continue reading, and the last sentence is "For a split second, he seemed to hang suspended beneath the shining skull, and then he fell slowly backward, like a great rag doll, over the battlements and out of sight." So me? I'm going apeshit - inside, of course, because I'm in a public place. I look down at the bottom of the next page and...it's page 569. 5-fuckin'-69. That's right, my book was MISPRINTED. Right at the climax, right at the part that had me foaming at the mouth... Thirty pages GONE.

Scholastic must die. Don't they bother to do quality control checks of their products? I mean, homicidal rampages are born of stuff like this!

*sigh*

Hopefully Amazon sends me the replacement soon. It's a damned good thing I went by Midtown and picked up another Starman GN. Otherwise I think I might be reduced to melodramatic sobbing right now.

That is the most horrible thing ever, and I feel for you.. Put those bastards to the wall and get that replacement.

Bwah! If only that was an option. I did feel the urge to call up their customer service and bitch someone out for a while, but they don't list any number. All for the best, since sanity hit during the time I was angrily looking through their pages.

I caught your entry but I didn't read it because I hadn't finished the book yet. I guess you didn't like it much, huh?

Oh no, I absolutly loved it, I read it in like two days and wish there was more, but still things happened that I didn't care for...

OMG. If that were me, someone would pay. There's no doubt about that. I'm sorry. I'm tempted to scan the 30 pages you missed and email em to you. Hell, if you want I will. Of course, now I have to go home and check my copy to see if it's ok. I just got it yesterday and only read the first chapter before going to sleep.

Oh well, sorry Frederico. That really sucks.

Thanks for the offer, Gardino. *grin* It always amazes me how much restraint you have while reading. I can never stop at one chapter, unless I really dislike what I'm seeing.

I don't need the scannage. I think I can wait the week or so it'll take for Amazon to send me a copy. Hopefully. If things get desperate I'll just mosey on into a bookstore, get comfortable, and read it there. Or a streetcorner or a grocery. Every damn place around this city is carrying the book.

One thing to say

Barnes and Noble: they're good for thirty pages....
