Arctic Fox, it's a trap!
Aug. 23rd, 2009 08:52 pmSaturday I sucked it up and powered down my laptop for the first time in more than a month: this entailed closing all of my open browser windows (18, with God knows how many tabs thrown in), backing up my hard drive, updating my system for the first time in eons (for the record? the newest versions of Safari and iTunes suck it hard), backing up my hard drive again once things seemed stable, tracking down the laptop sleeve, and then delicately throwing everything into my messenger bag. I'd hoped to drop my MacBook off at the Apple Store to get the damn "a" key repaired so I wouldn't have to lug a USB keyboard around with me at DCon. However, I'd forgotten what a clustereff the Apple Store can be on a Saturday afternoon. You'd think they were giving away free cheese and peanut butter in that badboy, it was such a madhouse. There was plenty of staff, but there was such a loud crowd that it was near impossible to find someone who wasn't assisting someone else. And once I found out there were no openings for technical support until *Tuesday* I decided to bail. Which pissed me off because I know my type of repair will require my laptop to be sent out, and that's why I went through backing up, updating, and shutting down in the first place. ::headdesk::
The weekend's been nice and low key. At the moment I'm watching the BBC nature series Planet Earth, and amusing myself by rooting for those animals destined for sad endings as foretold by the ominous music and narrative tone. Baby humpbacks should not be chased by killer whales for six hours, killed, and then simply nibbled on; that's all I have to say on the matter.
My Chemical Romance's The Black Parade has been on repeat the last couple of days. MCR's stuff has a tendency to grow on me over time.
I'm trying to think of some vacation spots for January and for my next birthday (finally hitting 30, and I can barely remember I'm 29 half the time). I don't want to spend too much for January, as I prefer to put out more for the bday trip, so I'm thinking West Coast again. I've heard Seattle is horrible in January, but then again I heard San Fran's weather would be god awful and it was 60 and sunny every day I was there.
Any folks going to be in ATL over Labor Day weekend want to powwow, feel free to e-mail or message me. It'd be nice to meet you folk face to face after communicating via LJ.
