It snowed yesterday. Not enough to justify the way the local weatherpeople were creaming their pants, but just enough to give me flashbacks to the last time I took the GREs and ended up having to make a trip to Mary Immaculate. Luckily there was no slipping on "African-American ice" for me this time around. Nor did I end up canceling my score. I skipped out on my Anatomy class and subbed out of my notetaking responsibilities so all I had today was the standardized monster.

The analytical section was so-so. I've never been able to tackle the issue essays. Persuasive writing simply isn't something that comes naturally to me. I'm rather lackadasial with my style. I mangle the language in an attempt to mirror my thoughts. It's a hard habit to try to get out of. I was supposed to write something on the arts, I think the topic was "Government funding threatens the integrity of the arts" or something along those lines (and you're supposed to argue yea/nay/or maybe). Now, if you asked my opinion on that I'd say I think it doesn't and I'd give you a couple of reasons. But if you ask me to put that in the verbose style the graders seem to lap up? Nothing. I actually ran out of time before I could put something coherent together. The response consisted of five paragraphs, but they didn't make much sense.

Now, the argument essay I totally spanked. That shit is so easy! And fun, besides. With this you're presented with someone's opinion and told to poke holes in their points. I racked that up with time to spare for proofreading...which I didn't need; if the words are coming I usually won't have to bother to go back and re-read.

Surprisingly, I ended up doing better on the math than the verbal. I did pretty crappy in both sections (690 Math/ 630? 650? Verbal - 1310? total), but I thought I'd end up doing a lot worse so I can live with that. For now, anyway. I knew the verbal was lacing me up when I was working through it. There were too many words that I simply had no clue about, and for some reason I ended up spending 5+ minutes on one long reading passage because it just wouldn't stick for me. The math was "eh". The little reviewing I've been doing really helped.

The main reason I scheduled the GRE for today was so I could rush out my U. of Illinois app postmarked by the 1st. I thought Pace's stuff was also due by the 1st of March, but it turns out they're not until June, so I'm good. Unfortunately the one teacher I thought I could rely on for a recommendation totally fell through. Not a peep from Camarasana, and no letter in sight. So I guess I won't be attending U. of Illinois in the fall. I'm not really pissed, I mean, I did give her short notice, but at least she could have dropped me a word and said she wouldn't be able to send it to me so I wouldn't have wasted the effort on filling out the school's application forms. Eh, what can you do?

I'm worried about my chances with Pace because I sent them a rather perfunctory essay about my motivations to enter the nursing field when I thought they needed everything by the 1st.

Okay, I'm going to go away now.
