Ah, a breath of freedom
Jun. 25th, 2004 11:15 pmI'm on the tail end of my vacation at the moment. Yes, I managed to accrue some vacation time whilst laboring at Le Shack, and I decided I should use it before I lost my bloody mind. I really haven't done much of anything during the last three days. No friends to visit, no sights to see, no money to throw around, really, but I'm not complaining. I ran my errands, caught up on as many bills as I could, and checked into school enrollment and the like.
Totally out of the blue today, one of my co-workers called and said she missed me. Poor thing. I think the Shack has finally broken her and made her delusional.
As far as Hunter goes, I'm good to go for the fall. No government grants (because I already have a Bachelors I'm not eligible), so I'm looking at more loans. But, hopefully, with proper budgeting I can pay these smallish ones off posthaste. I was hoping to take a few interesting lit courses as well as catch up on my Italian, but I realize that my fun time in school is done. I'm on a mission - to graduate with my damned MS in Nursing whathaveyou. I'm also weighing whether I should drop Radioshack and take up a work-study job. It'd be a bit of a pay cut, since most workstudy positions pay around $6/hr, but I'd at least be doing some work close to my desired field. Eh, who knows?
Yesterday I went to visit my aunt with the kid on the way, the one that I'm closest to at the moment. Her life right now is terribly close to where I want to be in ten years. She has a beautiful home in a urban yet off-the-beaten-trail neighborhood, she's in a (seemingly) loving relationship, and has a kid on the way (although I could most likely do without the kid and substitute, I don't know, a dog? parakeet?). Her and her husband stressed to me how important budgeting and setting up nest-eggs are, especially since I'm young and can get a head-start on it all. It left me with a lot to think about, starting a 401K, investments and the like...Things I never really pondered (money does have a tendency to run through my fingers...). We then went around their neighborhood and headed over to DUMBO (stands for, I believe "Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass"), and I found a contender for "place where Fredericks would love to live". Beautifully industrial, full of lofts, very bohemian, and you get a lovely view over the East River into Manhattan. *sigh*
Anyway, chalking them up as a necessary expense, I signed up for swimming classes. I figure it'll be good for me. No more wading in the kiddie pool, and I won't be able to use my bum leg as an excuse not to exercise.
Nothing much more of note going on in my life. I've noticed that my entries are becoming shorter and shorter, along with being less and less coherent. Maybe I'm tired? Yes, that may be it. I'll remedy this in the future.
