So I'm sitting here reading my FL and I come across [livejournal.com profile] sternel's entry about our excursion to Harry, Carrie & Garp *with* bonus fandom wank smackdown (oh yes!). I'm reading, I'm reading, I'm laughing, I'm nodding in total agreement, I'm reading, and I get to this line:
I met [livejournal.com profile] fredericks for dinner at Heartland Brewery. Because Freddy is on medication that won't let her drink, I dragged her there anyway and fed her root beer...

and I flash back to the yummy root beer and smile, then take a cool sip of the champagne I have in my cup. Because I'd completely forgotten. I had to read sternel's post twice before my brain kicked in and I went "hoshit!" Ah; one of these days my liver's just going to rebel and pull an alien baby right out of my abdomen.

Sorta annoyed things have transpired to keep me from bothering [livejournal.com profile] modpixie in the flesh this weekend. Stupid school and stupid things to do. There's always Boston, however. I need to meet more of y'all, I tell you what.

It's quite obvious I have no alcohol tolerance, right? I drank maybe 4 oz before my brain went on holiday; things are a little shinier than usual.

ETA - [livejournal.com profile] laughingirl has a picture from "Harry, Carrie & Garp". She captured one of the more surreal moments of the whole deal. Fatwah, anyone?

As I continue trying to make my stupid posting for class, a meme -
1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your LJ along with these instructions.

Come every day and touch this knot of wood, speaking to the tree and naming it, in the same way, with the same degree of concentration, from the same state of mind if possible. Picture the knot as smooth and round. Over time, if the will is powerful, the tree will know you.

from Kirith Kirin by Jim Grimsley

Gotta say, I'm really digging this book. It's the first bit of new fantasy I've read in...two months? Of course, I'm not counting graphic novels or trades. I had to force myself to put it down in order to start with the homework, hence the proximity. I literally have a bag of library books waiting for me to tackle them when I'm done with this, but I'm wondering if I should make room for the newer George R.R. Martin as he's known to rock my world. Hmm. But exams and papers!, right, right. Those first.
