We anted up and saw Spider-man 3 at IMAX this evening. Because a) I bow to genius, b) I am a lazy mofo and 3) I completely concur, I will begin my scattershot opinion post by quoting the entirety of [livejournal.com profile] klaw's review.

The movie will lure you in with a strong start, and you will think, 'This movie is awesome!'
Then, it will turn for the south in a sneaky sort of way, and you will think, 'There's a bit of a lull here...'
Then, it will crush your hopes and dreams and make you wish you had never been born. You will think, "OMG I GET IT ALREADY THIS IS NO LONGER FUNNY."
The movie will then give you a glimpse of hope that it was just a brief flirtation with being incredibly awful, and will return to the awesomeness of the first part of the movie.
Lastly, it will also crush that dream.

When I left the theatre the first thing out of my mouth was "well, at least that preview for Harry Potter looked totally kick-ass".* The ending pissed me off. Medical attention! Is that too much to ask, people?!? And revisionist scripting makes me want to hurl heavy objects through large screens. Ugh.

On a "what I'm reading" note: while at the library some time ago I picked up His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik and only got around to reading it after I realized I had to renew it or pay late fees on it. Once I started it sucked me right in. I finished it yesterday night and then rushed to grab the two subsequent books (Throne of Jade and Black Powder War) from the library before going to the movies. They read like an O'Brian Aubrey novel with dragons substituted for ships, and as I'm a big fan of the nautical tales that's a plus.

My schedule at work this mouth is great: I don't have any split weekends, and I only have one week where I have less than two days off between shifts. Perks, indeed.

Finally, a computer question: is there a way to export links saved on Internet Explorer? I'm pretty sure my computer is going to keel over in a couple of weeks and I'd like to try to salvage what I can now. Forget it, answered my own question. Sometimes it helps to actually look on the computer before asking a question. ::is ashamed::

*Seriously, the movie looks like it'll be amazing. And at IMAX it's going to be in 3D which, if you didn't see the dragon fight in 'Goblet of Fire' in IMAX 3D you really don't know what you missed. Plus, Snape! and Neville! I want to take Neville from OotP, package him, and sell him.

Well, it's actually kind of relieving that SM3 is kind of disappointing. Now I won't have to use a precious baby sitting token from my parents to watch my infant.

I can save it for other things. Like Harry Potter. And Pirates of the Carribean.

I haven't read a good review of Spidey yet. Too bad.
I've read all 3 of those books! I can't wait for the fourth to come out! I should probably watch Goblet of Fire before the next Harry movie rolls around!

Sorry about Spidey 3. :( I know you were looking forward to it.

Dude, where's the Imax? Is it in Queens, or Manhattan? If it's in the City, and you plan on going on a weekday, would it be okay if I joined you? I'm really, really stoked about OotP, and I've never Imaxed. It sounds like so much fun! And seriously, OotP in Imax? SCORE!

Harry Potter looks AWESOME. Definitely save your tokens for that one. I'm thinking Pirates might bring the cheese, what with all the new characters it's going to introduce, but as it's the third part of a trilogy it's at least worth the effort.

The second book dragged a bit for me, I think. I enjoyed the aerial combat aspect of book one, and so much of book two was spent on the ship that even when we got off it I couldn't find myself terribly enthused. I have book three and I'm going to read it but there's no big rush like there was once I finished the first one. But, you know, support the book and all that. It is still rather good. :)

If you've read Goblet there's no need to watch the movie, I don't think. But you have two months! Plenty of time. :)

Dude, no doubt! It's SO worth it to go to IMAX, particularly when the movie is in 3-D. When it gets closer to the time I'll let you know. We should do it!

And after reading my comment...I meant to say "during the day", not "weekday". Aheh...sorry. Weekends are fine too, of course! But would during the day be okay? *blush*

Yeah, I'm psyched for the movie, almost even moreso than Book 7, because I KNOW Book 7 is going to be a huge freakin' downer and a far cry from the happy-go-lucky Harry we've seen in the first 1-4 books. Also I want to see how Tonks looks, because I bet she is freakin' cute.

I have faith that Book 7 won't be completely depressing. I guess I found the Harry of books 5 and 6 more realistic (if imbued with too much melodrama) considering the circumstances he'd emerged from. Then again, it IS a children't book so *shrug*.

I'm off on the 30th, 31st, and the 1st of June. Do you want to get together one of those days? Or should we wait until I have an available weekend?

The 1st sounds spiffy! That day would be perfect.

I'll be emailing you, my friend. (:
