Can we stop?
Jul. 21st, 2008 08:47 pmI'm glancing at my backpack every so often. See, my tablet's in there, and I have one visit note left to finish and seven (seven!) visits to prep for tomorrow. But I didn't finish in the office until three hours ago. I got in the house two hours ago, at which time I ate dinner, showered, put clothes to wash, and...tried to find the energy to open my damn tablet. I have newfound respect for mailfolk (sounds like a genus from Fairie, doesn't it? wee little mailfolk, frolicking in the dales) and any other workers who have to toil outside no matter the weather, mainly because I've joined their numbers. Hearing about heat waves just sinks one's day. And as my house doesn't have air conditioning post-shower I'm only slightly less sweaty and icky than I was this afternoon.
Went to Montauk (Montauk!) this weekend with the Cap'n and Co.. Apparently Montauk's slogan is "The End" (because it's at the ass-end of Long Island), and isn't that the most ominous damn slogan you've ever heard? Really now. There were nice beaches and cute touristy things to take in. That seemed to be the extent of things, but it was lovely. Yet another thing to check off my summer list. Didn't do anything the day after because I was exhausted, but I'll try to do a museum or two this coming weekend.
I also went and got my hair dyed this weekend. I was more or less willing to let the stylist do whatever the hell he wanted, the more drastic the better, but the gentleman I landed gave me some light brown/reddish highlights and a mild brown job overall. It works quite well when my hair is worn out, but this time of year it's way too hot to trek up and down with hair on the nape of one's neck, so the full effect isn't visible most of the time. Pulled back in my default ponytail I think it just looks unusual, because the highlights are quite close to my complexion and it sort of blends in? It's funky. And it's different. I'm not complaining.
Cue the quibbling: Iron Man > Dark Knight. Sorry. It was close, though. Robert Downey and The Dude were just more enjoyable than the lengthy doom and gloom of Gotham. Although the disappearing pencil trick? Holy FUCK. And the Watchmen trailer had all the geeks bursting into applause. Oh Patrick Wilson, I'll take you, Night Owl costume or no.
I'm going to open my tablet now, I swear by all I hold holy.
Maybe.
Maybe I'll just write something.
Else, that is.

Date: 2008-07-22 01:56 am (UTC)Seriously though.."The End"? LOL!!
I definitely rock the default ponytail. I'm way too lazy to do anything with my hair most of the time - plus I just want it out of my face. It's nearly always pulled back. I cut it real short this winter to try something new and have less hair to deal with. It's cute and takes less time to deal with than long hair -- but it's not as easy to pull back. I'm finding I can't wait to grow it out a bit so I can do those nice ponytails again!

Date: 2008-07-22 03:35 am (UTC)I'm really looking forward to the Watchmen movie. I had noticed people on lj flipping out about the trailer before I saw it, but I kind of ignored it. Then I saw it at the movie theater and I was pretty much sitting there like ':O' while it played. It looks amazing. Hopefully it is.

Date: 2008-07-23 01:28 am (UTC)It was dreary as all hell, and I was tired enough as it was without having to sit through 2.5 hours of that. What got to me was, even at that length it still felt a bit cut and pasted, like longer scenes were reduced too much to lead to the finished product. I dunno. *shrug*
Watchmen, if it's not vamped up for the screen, will be awesome infinity.
