I was in a patient's apartment earlier today when my pants leg was assaulted by a yappy dog. You know, one of those small breeds that act like they're on crack, pawing at any part of visitors with which they come into contact. The patient and his wife kept trying to order the dog off me, throwing in the occasional "some people don't like dogs", supposedly directed to the dog in question. I felt like adding "dogs that can't stay the hell away from my person and my equipment, that is". WTF, yo.

I totally agree. I hate little yapping dogs. Big dogs, or the rarely seen quiet little dog, I'm cool with.

I wasn't sure how to parse part of your post: " ...quiet little dog... "

Did you really mean to put those three words together?

=)

As I said, they're very rare. I think they may have had their vocal cords bred out of them or something.

Truth be told, I did know one leetle dog that did get quiet at times.

That's when someone had to spring into action and drag the dog away. Quickly. It meant the person the dog was next to was about to get whizzed on.

*grin* Little dogs that know their place? Adorable. I have another patient who has a boxer/pit mix that's sweet as all hell and a little pocket dog that stays at her side at all times. By choice, that is. No problems there. It's these other folks that make me want to rant and rave.

I adore dogs... the well-behaved obedient kind that know their place in the pack. I detest dogs that are allowed to think they are Alpha.

And it seems like little dogs get away with it more often than the bigger breeds. It's ridiculous.

It's the owners fault for letting the dog get away with that behavior. Too many people let little dogs to whatever they want just because they are small. But they have the ability to learn obedience just like any other dog. Little dogs don't have to be annoying...but most of the time they are b/c their owners treat them like their "little babies". lame.

Seriously. Just because they're pocket size doesn't mean they're incapable of being trained. A small dog jumping over anyone is just as annoying as a big dog doing it.
