Here's who's decided to anger up my blood today: people who have kids and think their lives are somehow more important and fulfilling than the lives of those who don't. Seriously, fuck you very much if you think just because I haven't decided to breed my life has less meaning and significance than yours.

Yeah, I've been mentally punching people in the face since this morning.

I can't be the only person who's run into this. Implying people without kids shouldn't have a problem working extra days and/or hours? Makes me want to put on cleats and kick you in the crotch.

On my flist, your post is right below that of the mom of a newborn who's been posting nothing but baby pictures and descriptions of just how special and awesome her kid is for MONTHS. I scrolled past her, got to your post, and thought, "How apt."

I keep watching this pattern, of normally sane women friends suddenly spawning, and then ALL they can talk about is the new human who came out of them. I mean, yeah, babies are neat, but what happened to the human who nurtured the new one? She used to have a life and a brain of her own.

I don't mind listening to stories about people's kids, because kids? sort of awesome on the whole. But don't imply I'm missing something or lacking because I don't have any. Because then? the dueling gloves emerge.

Yes, exactly. I love kids. I'll even gladly look at their pictures and listen to their stories when the kids themselves aren't present. That's cool.

But OH MY GOD my world is such a great place and guess what? No kids! HAPPY!

The gloves are off, dude.

My dad likes to say that in the Great State of New York, you need a license to:
-cut hair
-hunt
-fish
-paint fingernails
-drive a car

However, to have a kid? You just need, well. You know.

Any idiot can do it.

Congratulations on not being an idiot. =D

I'm not shitting on parents, mind. Or having kids. Because I can see myself being a parent. But I really don't think I'm less of a person than folks that do have kids. Or my time is less valuable than theirs. Seriously, when they go there I get all riled up.

Exactly. My time away from work is just as valuable as someone who has kids.

There's parents, and then there's people who have kids. I find there's a vast, vast gulf between those two groups.

amen! Or people who look at you like you must be damaged when you say you aren't married. Hey, guess what? I can have a fulfilling life without kids or a husband, thanks so much.

Here, here. It's the whole workplace scenario where folks think those without kids should jump on working extra days/hours. Uh, no, I got shit I want to do.

of course, on the flip side, we have to put up with people who look down on us, rather loudly and rudely, for being "breeders" and laughter because "we dont get to go to clubs, or have fun any longer, and how boring your lives are."

People should just respect others' life choices, yanno?

:)

Unless you are one of those people with kids who actually think their time is more valuable than that of those without kids this post isnt directed at you. I know you arent there.

I concur, we should all be respectful.

OMG I HATE THAT. Nothing pisses me off more than people who think its kids that give life meaning and anyone who doesn't is less of a person or whatnot. Soooo annoying.

I was just talking to someone about this the other day. I used to work with someone who acted exactly this way. His go-to phrase was, "You don't understand, you don't have kids..."

Please. The asshole's wife stayed at home with the kids, so I always wanted to say, "Well, Chris, your wife is at home with the kids all the time while you're at work, so I really don't think you understand what it's like to have kids, either."

(Not implying all working dads are inattentive to their kids. Just this particular working dad.)

I can only imagine how grating that must have been. It's like, I don't *need* to understand. I respect your experience. Now just don't belittle my choice, you know?
