Pimpin' aint easy ::pops collar::

A couple of things I keep saying I'll get around to pimping out on my LJ. Let me take care of it all now, while I have a moment of free time.
1. Nine Inch Nail's new album is coming out May 3rd. I was kindly informed by the official fan list in an untimely manner that there is free streaming listening of the album in its entirety available on MySpace at NIN's MySpace account. The e-mail claimed you needed to be a member of MySpace in order to access the goods (which I am) but the streaming started as soon as I clicked on the link.
I think it's okay. No breakout songs like could be found on The Fragile (like the raw and somewhat ironic fingerpointing of Starfucker Inc. and the grace of The Great Below) though. I was surprised and a little disappointed by how *similar* it sounds to his last endeavor. Some would say that all of NIN's music sounds alike, but I think Trent changed up the style in all of his albums: you have the almost garage-band juxtaposed with stock Industrial-ness of Pretty Hate Machine, the smooth computer flow of Downward Spiral, and the almost cheery (for Trent, at least) synth sounds of The Fragile.
I *liked* The Fragile. A lot. It wasn't all "fuck the world, I'm fucked, she's killing me, waaaaah". I could see *hope* in it. It mirrored (and still mirrors) how I feel. Things stack up on the shit side of the fence but there's always a glimmer of light. When I listen to With Teeth I just want to give Trent a big ole hug and ask him what happened in the last five years that made things backslide.
But back to the actual music. Again, if you liked the sound of The Fragile, I think you're bound to like this one. I wish he'd tried to inject something new (besides the somewhat eye-popping early 80's Synth sound of...Getting Smaller? I forget the actual track number but when it started I nearly spit my water out onto my monitor) - you can listen to the tracks and say "Wow, that sounds sort of like March of the Pigs, or that's La Mer with a touch of caffeine" - but beggars can't be choosers. Particularly beggars that have been waiting for five years for new material. His closing track selection has yet to let me down; Right Where It Belongs is great.
If you follow the link and take the time to listen, drop me a comment or two and tell me what you think of it. I haven't talked Trent in a while.
2. Mad Reindeer. It's about a reindeer. That's, apparently, nuttier than extra-chunky Skippy. Or just really upset about the subjugation of his kind to the morbidly obese guy in the red flannel suit. Give it a read and give Rob props. Dude's an actor (an ak-tooour, if you will). I'd think he'd appreciate an influx of cash.
3. The New FDA My Pyramid Plan. I've been fiddling with this for the last couple of days, working on a Nutrition Project. Input your information, click on "Go", and you'll be sent to the "My Pyramid" page, your customized Recommended Daily Allowance of the food groups. If you think that's snazzy, click on the My Pyramid Tracker" link found on the right side of the page (underneath the Pyramid image) in order to analyze your diet and exercise on a daily basis. I found this to be particularly helpful for vegetarians or restricters who might worry about their vitamin/essential mineral intake (I found that I'm horrible at taking in enough vitamin E, which might explain the hair breakage and shedding I've been dealing with as of late...TMI, I know).
4. Those interested in RPing QAF, I'm co-modding a game. We need players. Badly. If you're interested in playing a character-based coherent semi-canon game, reply to this post and I'll share the goods with you.
That's about it. Interested? Have something you want to pimp yourself? Tell me about it. Just no spam, or I shall dispatch the lemurs for your monkey ass.

Date: 2005-04-28 12:01 am (UTC)Trent's on the new Spin? Is there a long article on him? or just a review of With Teeth?
Now that you've listened to the album all the way through (however many times) what do you think?
