My thermometer's popped up.
Jul. 11th, 2005 09:11 pmWe're stuck in a heat wave. I woke up drenched in sweat and terribly out of sorts. Lack of central air is making me wilt. Still no grant check. They're killing me by doing that. I hope it wasn't given to the incorrect address by my mailman.
I've started going back to the gym again, and the attempt to return to routine is working a number on my leg. My knee sounds like one of them there Cereal People, Crack or Snapple or whoever the hell. I need to get a better pair of sneakers; I purchased my current pair more than three years ago and they're worse for wear.
I keep hoping that the Lucifer GNs I ordered from Amazon will be delivered to my house by Mike Carey in that anniversary promo they have going. But...I'm not holding my breath.
My giggle moment of the day - Someone rang our front doorbell and the three of us in the living had that immediate "who the fuck?" expression on our face, because anyone who knows us knows to come to the back door. Mom crept up there and peeped out, then came back in with a chagrined look because she had no idea who the people were. I shrugged it off, and then later on she said "It was those Mormons", because I guess she'd remembered what I told her about the missionaries. I had to control myself from giggling uncontrollably, and since then I've been fighting the urge to see "Latter Days" again. Blockbuster never seems to have it in stock and I've sworn off Netflix due to lack of funds. I think I might just have to cave in and purchase it, even though the B-plot does suck.
"Jeffrey"'s playing on LOGO now. I've never seen more than the first 20 minutes of this movie, even though it has Steven Weber and Jean-Luc Picard in it, two guys I used to go absolutely ga-ga over. I remember trying to watch it back when I was in HS and it was playing on Blowtime, and my dad coming down and giving me the evil eye once he found out it was about gay characters. I wish he'd given me the evil eye because it featured mediocre acting, a stereotypical "tragic AIDS" plot, and cookie-cutter characters instead. Eh. Let's see if I can sit through it.

Date: 2005-07-15 04:01 am (UTC)That's a beautiful thing. Although it's only fair to note that not all religion stresses the "we are right! they are wrong!" POV - the Unitarian Universalists (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unitarian) are an example of a worshipping body that embrace all religions.
I more or less consider myself agnostic nowadays, but having grown up in the Catholic church (and having gone to school in a Lutheran establishment - talk about irony) I tend to find the ceremony soothing. The chanting, the instrumental work, the smell of sandalwood and assorted other incense, the ritual and roteness of it all lent (and still lends) my life some well-needed order, since everything else seems so chaotic. Once I was able to get exposure outside of neighborhood I figured that something wasn't quite right. I came to the personal conclusion that I believe in a "new Testament" God, if anything. A God of love. Of course, my belief in a God/Gods/Higher Being changes almost daily. I find myself content to try, however feebly, to "love my neighbor as myself" and to "do unto others as I'd have done unto me". The rest I search for.

Sandvoss! He really is amazing. I do hope he ends up with more work under his belt really soon.
It's so funny that you commented on my bit on Latter Days. I forgot to mention - the evening I came home to your comment I'd gone back to Blockbuster Video in order to look for the movie. Finding the case on the shelf but no movie, I went to the front desk, where I was informed that the movie was missing. *sigh* I perked up a bit when the clerk told me they had a copy for sale for only 14.99. Whee! So I head over to the sale racks and...no movie. The clerk comes over to help me and still no movie. She suspects it might have been an inventory mix-up and she said she'd look for it and hold it for me if she can locate it. I'm not holding my breath. I might actually have to fork over the 18.74 plus shipping at Amazon.com to get it. Damn.

Date: 2005-07-15 06:52 am (UTC)No way! Man, that sucks! I do hope you get it! And I hope I'll get mine some day. The only one I can find is one of asian region, but it's cheap and I'm sure it will work on either our dvd or my computer.
Yo know, I downloaded a few season5 episodes to my laptop (including ep 10 and 11) and they must be two of my favourite episodes, but now the sound has suddenly gonw dead. It died right before I was going to play the last two episodes, so I had to download them on my PC instead. Arrr. So now I'm downloading the entire season on the PC instead. I so don't have the space. lol You know, I had the season 1 dvd collection, but had to leave it in England when I moved, and now the only collections I can find here is season 3 and 4 and the uk version full series. Why would they stop selling things? Oh well, rant over. lol You've seen the unaired episodes, right?

Date: 2005-07-15 07:47 am (UTC)Here I was thinking there were additional episodes from previous seasons that Cowlip never got around to distributing. *grin*
I've seen up to 510, which is airing this weekend in the US. The rest I can wait for. Unfortunately I've heard enough of spoilers to basically figure out where things are headed, but I'll going to refrain from actually *seeing* it - you know, so I can savor the show until the end.

Date: 2005-07-15 10:30 pm (UTC)Then there are a myriad of GreatestJournal comms you can post at, since the vast majority of GJ's I've come across were RPG related. Set up a GJ account and check out their QAF and RPG promo comms. Then place ads there.
Another thing I'd suggest, and this is a very humble suggestion - ask people for writing samples. And ask them what they know about the character they want to play. The most frustrating thing is getting someone who seems like a great RPer and cannot maintain character or is prone to drama at the drop of a hat.

Date: 2005-07-15 10:40 pm (UTC)I've posted in all of those comms, except for liveinthenow, queer_as_folk (I think) and queerasfolkfans (it said no in the rules). And I've posted in several others. Check out the Babylonrpg_mod LJ userinfo, there are all the comms I've posted too.

As for the GJ comms - do you have a graphic or banner for the game? I'm absolutely no good at that sort of stuff. Those usually help grab people's attention. I'll help you with ad'ing there if you wish.

Date: 2005-07-16 11:29 am (UTC)Sigh. I just watched the entire season 5 right through, all though I skipped 12 and 13... I like the ending of 511 better. :)

Date: 2005-07-16 03:27 pm (UTC)As Ted says: "What makes fags prefer one club over another?" What makes a player prefer one game over another?

Date: 2005-07-17 05:27 am (UTC)I have no clue. You do have the eye-candy down, Ms. Kinney. *grin* That ad will work to get people interested, but you have to have a hook of some sort. I say we advertise for two weeks or so, and then see what feedback we get. Why not make a set date for the game to begin? and put it in the advertisement somewhere?

Date: 2005-07-17 06:28 am (UTC)Yes, but when is the last episode aired in the US? I'm right now joining communities on greatestjournal (already had a rarely-used journal there) and will set up an ad as soon as I know what I want.
I'm thinking more people might be interested as the end draws nearer. You're only on episode 10 or 11 in the US, right?

Date: 2005-07-17 07:56 pm (UTC)I got a mail today from someone who asked if I could hold Justin till tonight. I said sorry, I can't, but that he should still be available when she returns.
BTW, I have made some changes in the rules and how to apply. Check the mod journal (babylonrpg_mod). I think it's easier to understand now. :)
