Bits and pieces
Nov. 18th, 2005 09:55 pm- Has anyone seen those Kate Bush ads that play in the wee hours of the morning promoting her new CD? First off, way to pull a Michael Jordan and come out of retirement Ms. Bush. I can't help but cringe at how hokey both the ad (which she most likely had no input on) and the video clips featured in the ad (which she most likely had major input on) are. Bush has added a few pounds and instead of embracing her venture into "pleasantly plump" territory gracefully she's gone the Stevie Nicks route by wearing lots of layered clothing and scarves. In the video said scarves are waved around in a rhythm gymnastic-like way. Say cheese, Ms. Bush. And the voice over for the ad states at least three times "[Kate Bush] has been a major influence on artists during the last decade", and I keep hearing "step the frak off, Tori Amos - the originator's back in town". The tone is embarrassing, even though the message is truthful.
- Tyra Banks? worst talk show host ever. It's a talk show all.about.her. Her "interview" with Naomi Campbell was nothing more than a blabfest for her to get some most likely imagined drama off her chest. I was forced to watch it while at the beauticians this afternoon. Of course they didn't watch the news, but kept it on UPN. Come on, my black peoples.
- I rustled up some frozen dumplings this evening. The brand name? Ling-Ling. I instantly flashed back to
-"Don't hate the playa, babe; hate the game."
-"Screw rooooooooou!"
And then I sign onto LJ and I see that the scrumptious
snacktastic has pointed me towards some great "Drawn Together" icons. She's read my mind, she has. *cyber-love*! - I've been stoking myself up for the Narnia reveal tomorrow at the World of Disney store by watching the first trailer. I like the first one, not so much the second one. It's the talking that kills it. When I hear Aslan speak in my head the voice is nothing like, say, Liam Neeson's. More along the lines of their first choice, Brian Cox...or the classic choice, James Earl Jones. Enough of my quibbling, though - I will go and I will take pictures. Lots and lots of pictures. I need a reason to use all the photo space I'm paying for here.
- Mom gave me a winning lotto ticket for $80. Yay! Now I can pay off half of my bills!
No sarcasm there, either. My mom is often neat and periodically awesome. This is one of those periodic times. - SHAWESOME. Come on - I've seen/heard no one using it since my first attempt to inject it into the lexicon. I'm a little hurt.
If you've added me recently and we haven't interacted in some way, please say something. I'm a pretty laid back LJer, but random adds are a peeve of mine. If you wish to be a LJ friend in some way and you're not just looking to pad your Friends numbers, by all means drop me a word.

Date: 2005-11-19 05:28 am (UTC)Yes, very nice. I nod my head in the general direction of your superior steppin'. *grin*
Well, I wouldn't say he's playing an abundance of mentor roles, just that he manages to snag the meaty non-main character roles that just happen to be guiding figures in a couple of big name movies. He's not old! just "seasoned". The seasoned look makes for a hot actor, methinks.
Do you think his voice works for Aslan? I can't be the only one who's jarred by the juxtaposition.

Date: 2005-11-19 05:36 am (UTC)It's been ages since I've read The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe....trying to decide if I want to read it again before or after seeing the movie. I've had bad experiences with (re)reading books immediately before seeing the movie....

Date: 2005-11-19 03:26 am (UTC)The annoying thing she did was get set up on three blind dates with guys. Instead of handling herself as any normal woman would, she dealt with the surprise and disappointment the guys obviously had at dining out with an unnattractive overweight woman and was completely aggressive with them, demanding how they felt with her being a 'big girl'. Now...not to defend these guys, because you could tell they didn't want to be out with a 'big girl'...but she put them on the spot and basically humiliated them...which is not my ideal way of turning the negative feelings toward the overweight into positive feelings.
Whew...didn't expect a Tyra rant today! :) Sorry I rambled.

Date: 2005-11-20 02:42 am (UTC)I'm actually not a fan of the whole "thin woman wears a fat suit for a day" because it generally ends up being a piece about how crappy the thin woman felt about having to wear a size 18-20 instead of how overweight individuals are frakked over by society.

Date: 2005-11-19 05:03 am (UTC)That episode of Drawn Together was crazy. Ling-Ling is hilarious. I've always loved him. Periodically, I'll just burst into Ling-Ling's battle song and hit someone.
I never saw the shawesome entry. Perhaps I shall use it. Muahahaha!

Date: 2005-11-20 02:47 am (UTC)Damn. I need to watch the show more often. I don't even know what Ling-Ling's battle song is!
Oh! I watched Wonder Showzen last night, they showed it on Comedy Central during the wee hours. It was the episode with the letters and the numbers, paying an homage to Romeo and Juliet. Oh man! 8 and J are in lurve! And they showed the love scene in a montage. I think I laughed so hard I nearly peed my sleeping clothes. I hope they show it more often.
I'll e-mail you my addy if you give me your e-mail address.

And to tell you where MY brain is, on re-reading my entry I did a double-take and had to make sure I hadn't typed "stroking" in error. 'Sides, watching that trailer over and over again is the equivalent of mental masturbation at this point.
Shawesome. Heh. Thanks for placating me.

Date: 2005-11-20 02:54 am (UTC)"Drawn Together" icons,
Date: 2005-11-19 07:48 pm (UTC)Gotta make some myself...
Just finished 40 "Silent Hill" icons, so this'll have to wait till the next weekend.
God if I wasn't in love with my job I'd quit to make LJ icons :).
Re: "Drawn Together" icons,
Date: 2005-11-20 02:53 am (UTC)Shyeah, because that's a totally lucrative endeavor. *grin*
I'd love to see your Drawn Together icons when you make them. The one I used was made by someone else. I don't have Photoshop or any manipulation software - I've made maybe three of the icons I use.
I see.
Date: 2005-11-20 08:48 am (UTC)Of course, any of those I used or use are made by me. I'll try to make some "Drawn Together" icons this week, I love the show, thank you for the idea, actually. BTW, I do photoshop for the living, among the rest :).
Your current icon is dead, I assume that your images server makes wish better - you should save them on your PC and upload by Browse...
:).
Re: I see.
Date: 2005-11-21 06:00 am (UTC)And my icons are dying periodically due to the server issue. Loading of LJ in general is being problematic for me.
Yes,
Date: 2005-11-21 02:36 pm (UTC)We're inviting only close friends or those who we know as nice people for now. Crediting is a must, and you can't use icons that somebody else's already using - those are our rules. We just started :).
We'll be happy to see you on our members list, most of our members don't have photoshop currently, we're all about having a great time, period :-D.

Date: 2005-11-20 03:12 am (UTC)I love Kate Bush, but haven't heard any new stuff of hers in quite awhile.
I think I'll have to see this ad for her new stuff for myself I hate to think she's gotten all stupid and cheesy.
The narnia books were some of my favorites growing up so I've been kinda reluctant to see the movie...But maybe I will check it out anyway. I just got so annoyed when everyone was up in arms over the story being too christian... I grew up on it and I'm not standing in a lake dunking people and saving them;)

Date: 2005-11-21 06:10 am (UTC)If you can do a Google search for the ad I'd highly recommend it. Then again, you live in my area! I caught them on either Channel 9 or Channel 11 after 11PM. If you're ever up for no real reason at that time tune over and see if you can find the cheese.
I like her enough to give blame more to the record company than to her. I'd hate to think she's found it impossible to age gracefully.
I just got so annoyed when everyone was up in arms over the story being too christian...
You know, I had no idea it was an allegorical tale until the press started reporting about how it'd go across well in the Red States. I read it when I was younger too, and simply figured it was a straightforward "good vs. evil" yarn.
I want to see what they do to modern the roles of the girls in the movie. I re-read the whole thing recently and found myself annoyed with the fact that Lucy and Susan did little more than nurse people and weep over whatever the hell was going down.
I grew up on it and I'm not standing in a lake dunking people and saving them;)
At least, you're not getting caught doing it. *grin*

Date: 2005-11-21 08:27 am (UTC)You know, I do seem to remember it bothering me a little too about how the girls were portrayed, although I did think of Lucy as a strong character when I was young. Hmm....Maybe I shall go back and read it again now.
