fredericks: (Thoughts)
Heh. I got a bit of work done today - whoo-hoo! I'm hoping the Professor checks his e-mail sometime within the next thirty minutes or so so I'll know whether he approves my new direction. I've learned my lesson: never start hardcore investigation of a question without definite approval. I have a crapload of papers and notes that are now only marginally relevant because I just ran ahead and started researching instead of waiting to find out how sound my argument was.

Chatted a bit with Jack...er, I mean, Ben today. The guy totally scrubba-dub-dubbed the bathroom, amazing me to no end (I'm such a sexist - I would have put money on his girlfriend having been the one to clean, but he set me straight). The shower went from a mildey, smelly clogged mess to a sparkling clean clogged mess (one bottle of Drain-O and $5.00 later too). He seems nice, so perhaps this roommate thing won't turn out so badly. Ruth, Roomie #2, is a lot like me (or like me version 2.0) - she's not terribly social, keeps to herself, and is prone to sarcastic quips. Problem is, I learned all of that is rather off-putting to people you're living with and so I managed to curtail it somewhat (I'm on version 3.1 at this point, btw). She hasn't, and I find that she's grating on my nerves (which I suppose says as much about my feelings about myself as it does about my feelings towards her...heh).

I feel like the week is building to something, but I'm not sure what. I love those types of times; it gives you a reason to get up and get things done. To that end I invited Ozzie and her friend over tomorrow for a typical (traditional?) Trini dinner. I admit it, I'm sort of homesick and the menu is my way of trying to compensate. I picked up my last check from payroll this morning. The woman working there was obviously Trinidadian and when she said my name it reminded me so much of my folks that I got a jolt. Not necessarily a nasty jolt, but an "I've really missed that" one. Heh. She even said "Danielle" instead of "Daniella" like my grandma always does. But I digress. I've got my mind set on curry chicken and dahl (or dhal, or however the hell you spell it), but I think I've made dahl only once and I'm drawing a blank. I'm going to have to bug Mom when I get home. All I remember is that it's fairly easy to f' up, especially if you burn the garlic. Wish there was a place to get roti around here...I'd be in heaven (Trini roti, not the Indian type; 'sides, the Indian restaurants around here are seriously lacking).

On the "I'm weird as hell" front - I've found a new way to sleep on my mattress: on top of it as it's folded up. It's so much more comfortable than when I spread it out, and it's just funny. 'Sides, now I don't have to fold everything up in the morning. It's a time-saving device!

Still no word from Wincze. Oh well, productivity was coming to a halt anyway. Time to head home and relax (some more).
