From CNN.comREDWOOD CITY, California (CNN) -- A jury recommended Monday that Scott Peterson, the former fertilizer salesman whose case grabbed national headlines, be sentenced to death for killing his 27-year-old pregnant wife, Laci.
Cheers went up from a crowd of several hundred outside the courthouse as the jury announced its decision after 11 1/2 hours of deliberations over three days.

The San Francisco Examiner published a special edition emblazoned with the giant headline "DEATH" minutes after the jury's recommendation was announced. The part in bold troubles me. Deeply. Humanity. Or lack thereof.

I took notes in Astro today. Last time (hopefully) with this woman. The professor went over galaxies, and I was suddenly struck by how vast it all was. And how very little space we took up in it. Our solar system is practically in one corner of a galaxy that's 100 000 000 light years across. It was almost overwhelming, to realize how utterly minuscule I am in the grand (celestial) scheme of things.

As shared somewhat cryptically in my last entry, I decided to sit for my last (dreaded) Anatomy Practical. I wasn't prepared. Truly. When I say that, it's not false modesty. I know when I'm prepared and when I'm not (so *why* it is always the latter?). But all I need is to score a 66 or higher in order to have a valid shot at a B+ (and 3.3 on my transcript) for the class. Things weren't too hot, so...we'll see. Stephen's supposed to have the grades up some time this evening.

I'm toying with finding a nice baby picture, scanning it (I've *finally* reclaimed my printer), and posting it up here. I figure a baby picture is a good way to maintain some modicum of anonymity (I'm a Modest Bess; surely y'all have figured that out by now) and, besides, *everyone* loves baby pictures! Which is why I'm game ... if other people do it as well. Because...EVERYONE loves baby pictures! I'd even dig out an embarrassing one if I can get some peeps in on the fun.
So, what do you say?
