Wish you were here
Aug. 20th, 2006 10:02 amThe Haitians down the block had their "annual barbeque" last night. I use the quotes because they always seem to be having some sort of music-fueled gig over there...I guess the addition of the grill is what makes it a one time a year thing. We knew about it in advance because they ever so kindly dropped a notice about the event in our mailbox. The notice said we neighbors were invited, but we'd have to produce ID to say we were from the 'hood before walking on in. My speculation was that they were tired of people calling the cops on them because of noise violations and were trying to at least make it seem like they were being inclusive or whateverthehell. Bro reminded me of their gig last year which ended with the appearance of a motorcycle gang, a couple of fights, and a helluva lotta cop cars. Eureka. None of us decided to be neighborly and go over.
How'd this year's gig end? Why, with people walking swiftly to their cars, a couple of fights, and cop cars! No motorcycle gang, which left me disappointed. I was woken up at 3 or so to loud voices so I looked out the window and saw a *mass* of people down there. Our backyards are small things by necessity, so I have NO IDEA where all those people had fit. They swarmed out of the back like hornets after their nest has been disturbed, and then commence the beatdowns. Quite fun to watch from a story up. I didn't call the cops but I'm pretty sure someone did before everything started going down. True-to-form they showed up twenty minutes later. Four cops trying to quell two hundred people. *snort* Things did quiet down after they showed up though. I think. I sort of rolled over and fell asleep after the flashing lights hit the scene. Can't wait 'til next year's drama!
