Feb. 24th, 2007 04:13 pmYesterday bro and I went to NY Comic Con. Snapped a few pics but I was pretty overwhelmed by how *large* it had grown since the first year and didn't use the camera as much as I'd initially planned. Space wasn't an issue this year - they moved everything to the main floor of Javitz and kept the gaming and artists upstairs - but the line to get in at 4:00 was ginormous. I know George R.R. Martin mentioned heading over to the show in his LJ so I kept an eye out for him but no luck. I *did*, however, get to see Gene Ha, the artist for Alan Moore's Top Ten series. I held off on purchasing artwork or comics (I'm more into waiting for the trade than spending money on each issue - I fell off the collecting bandwagon years ago - and Amazon is so much cheaper when it comes to buying trades) but I did pick up the strategy game Marvel Heroes. Can't wait to sit in on Monday with a cup of tea and make my way through it with the bro-unit.
Have I mentioned how effin' big this thing was? Absolutely amazing. I was happy to be able to walk around with few congestion issues. I'll miss all the goodies today because of work, but next year I'll definitely plan on getting a weekend pass and take the three days off so I can absorb everything.
After the Con we grabbed dinner then went over to Carolines on Broadway, where we sat in for the comic stylings of Donnell Rawlings, aka "Ashy Larry" of Chappelle Show fame (he's also the host of a morning show here in NYC on Power 105). The two opening acts and Rawlings were HI-larious. AND we were right up on the stage - our table butted up to the stage and I ended up sitting with my foot up on the edge for comfort -so the first comic decided to use me and my bro in her act. Fun.
