That's right; for the first time in my collegiate lifetime I've had a snow day. And, right now? there's no more than an inch of snow on the ground. I had my Clinical Nursing in-class final scheduled for today, so it's somewhat of a bummer. Now I have to wait until next week Wednesday to possibly fail out of nursing school. I exaggerate, but part of me still wanted to just get the damned thing over with.

I'd planned on going to see Brokeback Mountain after the exam, but since the exam got cancelled I moved my plans up. I have no problems with going to see movies solo, but this time I did ask a classmate of mine to accompany me since we'd both been waxing on about the pretty that is Jake Gyllenhaal. She turned out to be all talk; she declined to go with me because she thought'd she'd be too squeamish over the man/man pseudo sexin'. Amateur. Then I asked [livejournal.com profile] sibyline if she wanted to accompany me but didn't give her a specific time, and thus didn't get her positive reply until after I'd returned. Damn it.

But, yes, I've come down from the Mountain. And I thought it was amazing. The screenwriters and Lee did an excellent job keeping Proulx' sparse prose feel, and the cinematography was really impressive. Judging by what most of the reviews give away I don't think it's a spoiler to say it's a melancholy tale - with about 30 minutes left in the film the gentlemen to the right of me started with the waterworks and sniffling, then the person behind him got into it. It was contagious, dang it. I can't lie - I teared up a bit too. And while Jake Gyllenhaal brought the pretty, Ledger's Ennis really did steal the show. Ledger did more with a small smile in his character's otherwise stoic facade than Gyllenhaal managed with Jack's earnestness. Both were excellent, though. I can't wait to see it again, and would like the opportunity to do so *poke, poke*.

Aside from that I've done nothing today. Again, I'm not complaining. I'm hoping I go to see Narnia tonight with my brothers and my aunt. Don't think it'll touch me the way Brokeback did, but it'll be a good diversion.

Lucky, lucky you! Snow day and Brokeback Mountain. I am terribly jealous. I want to see that movie. I'm guessing I'll have to wait for video since I live in a bible-thumping republican stronghold. Ah well, enjoy the rest of your day!

"Incredibly witty and charming", huh? *grin* As always.
Hmph. When I saw that anonymous comment I got a bit excited, thinking I'd managed to snare me a secret admirer. *sigh* No love for me. Damn it, Brokeback has me all maudlin now.
Aww. I'd so see it with you if you weren't in the Bible Belt.

Tomorrow I do have a dentist appt in the morning, so just to be safe...will 2:45 work for you? At Chelsea Clearview (http://www.fandango.com/TheaterPage.aspx?date=12/10/2005&mid=86041&location=10011&tid=AABDQ)? Easy accessible via the 1,9.

If yes, I'll meet you in front of the theatre for 2:15ish? If I get out of the dentist early I'll be lounging in the Starbucks on 8th and 23rd.

I heard that about Heath. But even dorkier, I basically noticed your post because you had an icon of Vivi. Poor Vivi. He got no respect. :(

*grin* Bwah!! Vivi got no respect? What, are you kidding?? He basically saved what remained of his "people", and he looked like Orco. ORCO. He got plenty of respect around my way. And I did cry a little when they did the slo-mo scene where he watched the other black mages get cut down. I swear, I don't always get emotional! It only seems that way.

Go see the movie. Good. Funny. Sexin'. Sort of. But Jake is so lovely. My ova cry out to be fertilized with his wide-smiling bright blue eyes havin' sperm.

You. Suck. A snow day and Brokeback Mountain. Damn you for living in the cool city! One the one hand, we're at the heart of the Bible Belt here and this movie will probably be, like, banned and then Ledger and Gyllenhaal tracked down and tarred and feathered, but on the other hand, we're supposedly modern and can handle this kind of thing, since the gay community here is where everyone else in the Bible Belt runs to...I just hope I get a chance to see it when it opens here.

Vivi is a character from Final Fantasy IX. He was a black mage and, like the image, looked amazingly like Orko (Orco? eh). He had the best storyline of all the characters in the game, IMHO. And he was a black mage! Totally kick-ass.

aww. now I really want to go see it.

Did you go see Narnia/where's the review for it? I've been looking forward to seeing that, and I'm trying to decide if I want to read the books first. Yes, I'm ashamed, I haven't read them yet.

I saw Narnia. Meh, I didn't like it too much. I guess I'll give it a mini-rant in my next post. If you're going to watch it you don't have to read the books first. It's very faithful to the source material.
