fredericks: (A tender moment)

I've never had to deal with an iffy back and I'm a bit lost when it comes to going about things. The problems seem to have started a week or two ago and they returned with a vengeance this afternoon as I was preparing dinner. One minute I was pulling the macaroni pie out of the oven (bending from the back, using horrible technique) the next I was primal screaming in my head. It was like someone had popped me in the back with a 2x4 (precisely that measurement, btw - admire my mad Home Depot skillz). My second thought was "Lord, let me not drop this Pyrex full of baked noodles and cheese on the tiled floor". My first thought was simply "JESUS!" Isn't it amazing how pain brings the religion on?

The full brunt of pain left after a couple of seconds, but an achy "weird" feeling remains. I made it my business to move to my bedroom so I could get horizontal; I had to enlist my brother to carry my disgustingly large Med-Surg books upstairs for me and I soldiered my messenger bag and library goodies because I'm a stubborn idiot. I keep trying to *crack* my back but it's not working. And no way in H-E-double hockey stick am I going to a chiropractor because they are spawn of the Devil himself (example no. 1 - Dr. David). No, but a chiropractor is out. If worse comes to worse I'll have one of my brothers walk on my back. That idea seems really clever when you don't type it out. *sigh*

Listening to "The Best of George Michael" - don't judge me! It's, uhm, not bad. It does annoy me that They Won't Go When I Go isn't on one of the discs [eta - It's a Stevie Wonder cover and I've heard the original. I em so slow, srsly]. Now I have to dig through my CDs to see if I can find "Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1".
What? Doesn't everyone own at least one George Michael CD?
Don't judge me!

My first exam is coming up on Tuesday. Erm. Ahem. I'm sort of prepared. Working on that, truly.

Shani Davis. The speedskater guy. Gnarly. I'd caught that he'd won earlier in the morning and was trying to get my brothers to switch over from the gaming system so we could see his medal-winning race. The oldest chimed in with "Word, because we all know black people don't like ice. This is like a once-in-a-lifetime event". You heard it here first - black people don't like ice. Or the cold. Black people would know.

Apparently there was some nonsense about the medal winner not being an athlete since it was "only" the winter games. Anyone who says that is a stupid head (mature, I know!) That guy can skate!! Kudos to him for being the first black Athlete to medal at the winter games too.

He's actually not the first black athlete to medal. That Debbie chick got a bronze in figure skating in 1988? I think it was, and a young woman won gold in the two-(wo)man bobsled in the last Winter Olympics. Davis's gold was the first individual gold. Kudos, most def.

And for me - a sport only really counts if the athlete breaks a sweat. So curling? meh. I guess if you're brooming fast enough you might need some Gatorade when all's said and done, but still.
