Done. FUCK YEAH.

I've made a cursory glance of my journal (using the LJ Desktop client now) so I apologize for not replying to comments and I hope everyone is well and happy. As it looks now I seem to have passed all my classes (passing in this program is getting above a C) and I breezed through my Pharm final in an amazing 20 minutes. Got 4 points below the average but seeing as I've spent the last five days or this side of crazy worrying about it I'm not going to bitch. Went to BB after class and stocked up. Ran up and down the aisles like a kid in a candy store, picked up "Advent Children", "The Squid and the Whale", "Mr and Mrs Smith", "Capote", "Hostel", "Narnia", and the newest film version of "Pride and Prejudice" (I had a coupon, peoples). Watched "Pride and Prejudice" last night. I have to give the edge to the BBC version because of Colin Firth and because it seemed less pretentious on the whole. Very pretty film, though. And no one can't tell me the last three or so minutes weren't a way to squeeze a shitload of sexual innuendo and imagery into a PG movie. I giggled my way through the credits. Then bro and I watched "Advent Children". I'm happy I didn't purchase it. The fight scenes were chizz (Tiffa and that dude at the beginning? Oh man, AWESOME) but there wasn't nearly enough Vincent and what the hell? Let Cloud fight his own battles my ass. Meh.

I'm still not caught up on my sleep. Everything's hazy and I'm constantly yawning. I have to return books to the library but I don't want to leave my bedroom. Dilemmas dilemma.

Thanks, M! I have to get everything working again. This semester was very draining.

Congrats on the presumed-passing. :)

Unwinding time after that pressure cooker that it seemed they put you thru is a good thing.

Thanks! It's gone from presumed passing to definite passing. My GPA's taken quite a dive, but I'm just happy I'm still alive, relatively sane, and in one piece. Unwinding is the way to go, although for guilt's sake I'll be reviewing terms and patho from time to time. Stupid conscience.

Yes, but how were the voices in Advent Children? I've only seen the Japanese version so far, and I'm dying to see it in English, but I'm afraid the voices will be all wrong.

Congrats on finishing-ness!

Oops, just realized you made that post 5 days ago. Sorry. I didn't realize how far behind I was.

Shush! Posts are posts are posts.

The voices worked. Nothing was jarring. Of course, we didn't listen to the Japanese VO so I'm not sure what you're expecting.

The translation was funny, though. I watched it with my brother and when Barrett calls up Cloud he says "Yo, boo; this is Barrett" or something like that. My brother looked over at me, raised an eyebrow and said "someone needs to tell [the makers] that's not how we roll in the 'hood".

My expectations aren't based on the Japanese VO, but rather on how I've imagined the characters in my head. FFVII is one of my favorite fandoms, and I'd hate to find that they did something like giving Tifa a really girly voice or making Cid not sound like a surly, hoarse old man.

As for Barrett's dialogue...well, at least it's in line with his FFVII dialogue. He spoke really bad Ebonics in the game, and most of the fans probably expected him to do so in the movie. Also, bear in mind that it's probably a translation of the Japanese, so it's based (at least in part) on Japanese perceptions of black Americans.

No extra girly voices for Tifa, nothing terribly jarring.

*grin* And the translation issue wasn't a problem with Barrett. Or rather, it was the translation issue that made it humorous. You simply don't call your homeboy "boo" unless you're friends with benefits.

Yeah, I was pretty sure the term was one of affection...and a fairly outdated one, at that. I remember people like Mya and Brandy using it back in the mid-nineties.
