Okay, fine, I give regularly. And I gave them my contact information. But I just got a call from the NYC Blood Center and, Jesus, I feel like I just got strong-armed into giving them platelets next week. I'm not sure if it's because I'm a major punk or they've hired former mobsters to man the phones.

Toph is certainly teh awesome. Although I keep wishing they'd have her blink every so often. The staring is disconcerting.

And the woman was surprisingly aggressive over the phone. I made the appointment just so she'd stop hassling me. I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up cancelling it. I guess it takes a certain breed to call people up and get them to do stuff they weren't necessarily thinking of doing at the time.

I can understand the tactics, because blood doesn't last more than two-three weeks after being processed and platelets are good for three-five days if I recall correctly. You need tons of volunteer donors to keep things going. But you can't expect to keep calling up the nice souls that give semi-regularly and pester them until they come in. It's unseemly.

I figure I make the appointment, and if anything I cancel it at the last minute. It's not like I wasn't thinking of going in anyway, but the woman was so damn persistent over the phone I was astounded.

One time I went in, but my iron was too low. They called two days later (they only waited a day because I had gone on a Saturday) asking me to make another appointment. And this is for full blood, not platelets.

If you cancel your appointment, they *will* call the next business day, and every day after that.

I used to give at work when they came around but then they started some new test for iron that's more accurate and I never pass...i think im just under what the minimum is too...

i hate getting strong armed over the phone...you would think it would be easier since youre not face to face but for some reason i have a harder time dealing with persistent people over the phone than in person
