fredericks: (Being Veep is hard work *snore*)

So. Tired. Could not get to sleep last night. Got home early, ate, sat on the couch with my laptop on one side and my tablet on the other and I couldn't even find the energy to write. Like, nothing. The only thing stopping me from going horizontal and grabbing a siesta was that I'd completely slagged snoozed [the English language *pays* me to abuse and *likes it*, dammit - ed.] on my rec. Gah. I need Friday to have been here *yesterday*. Srsly.

Funny the 1st: Al Gore Places Infant Son In Rocket To Escape Dying Planet. Cracked my shit up and also reduced the lady sitting in front of me on the train to tears. The entire article is win-worthy, but the Gore-Al bit got the loudest snort out of me.

Funny the 2nd: Cracked's The 6 Worst Comic Book SuperHusbands. I'd think Pete Parker's retconning of his marriage to save Aunt May would make him nifty husband material (look how he cares!), but then again that whole storyline is crack at its finest, so *shrug*.

Funny the 3rd: McCain's Camp Says Obama Is Playing The Race Card. Well, sheeeeeeeeeeet. Quote of the MILLENIUM (or at least until McCain and Co. open up their collective maw and say something else idiotic): “Barack Obama has played the race card, and he played it from the bottom of the deck,’’ Rick Davis, Mr. McCain’s campaign manager, said in a statement. Yes, because Obama pointing out he's a black man? sort of makes it hard to keep pretending that we don't see race here in America.

...

Shit, now I'm all mad. Maybe I should play MY race card and see if anyone trumps it.

I see "race" and all I can do is think of the line in Blazing Saddles where Bart (Cleavon Little) says "... and now for my next impression, Jessie Owens!"

Owens would win the race, he was probably faster than both of us and Obama combined. And I'm guessing any one of us is probably faster than McCain.

What, me go off on a tangent? Never! =)

IT WAS TOTALLY CHEATING HOW BARACK OBAMA TOLD PEOPLE HE WAS BLACK AND ALL.

Or: my disdain for McCain, let me show you it.

DUDE! OMFG! TOTALLY WAS!

I just had a sleep deprivation-induced brainstorm: the Presidential election should be run like The Dating Game Love Connection [I'm going to sit down before I hurt myself on air]. You know, the candidates remain out of sight and the public gets to ask them a bunch of nonsensical and occasionally innuendo-laden questions...only thing no one at home *ever* gets to see the candidates. And oh! oh! everyone uses SynthVoices (T-Pain as special guest DJ? Discuss.) so we can't tell what gender or ages we'd have to choose between. It'd be the beautiful utopian election the political parties smoke-screen the public into believing we're currently engaged in.

Yeah, heaven forbid that any white people should be reminded that non-white people still are still experiencing racism in this day and age...

Race placard? Because that's just a funnier image.

I can just take something like that and run with it.

OMG, Obama's not acknowledging his white half!

That would involve the use of the Race Bludgeon, and I'm pretty sure McCain's got first dibs on that one.

Frankly, I'm STILL waiting for my race card to cash in. Thing's taken in less places than Amex. Or friggin' Diner's Club Card, for that matter.

...wasn't racism abolished with the Emancipation Proclamation? or was it Martin Luther King Jr's whole "Dream" speech that twisted the knife real good?

It's just shits and giggles until November. It's either that or prayers and swears.

Diner's Club was bought out by Visa, so that one doesn't work anymore.

What is this "racism" you speak of?

Also about #3: I do think it's interesting how Ludacris is somehow part of this election!

And speaking of comic-book (#1&2) references, Dan told me about what the storyline to the Dark Knight Returns is--and now...now I want it to come out in its full movie-form glory, like next week or something! S v. B! (I abbreviated to avoid spoilers for anyone.)

Mayhaps. I think it's still in debate.

St. Peter is at the Pearly Gates checking up on the people waiting to enter Heaven. He asks the next one in line,
"So, who are you, and what did you do on Earth?"
The fellow says, "I'm Barack Obama, and I was the first black to be elected President of the United States . "
St. Peter says, "The U.S.? A black President? You gotta be kidding me! When did this happen?"
And Obama says, "About twenty minutes ago."

Across here, over the pond, I think Obama seems to be quite an honest politician - as far as they go. He's Christian, but fortunately he states he will never force that belief upon anyone [or at least that what it's been claimed he said]. His ideals and goals - as much as I know - are quite good ones. I've also not heard about him doing the politician tactic of slandering/insulting the opposition. But he may have.
I think he may have eluded to a few things, but no direct name calling. He seems to be going for the "any leader who uses fear to get you to follow them isn't worth following" belief. [isn't his 'slogan' "Hope" or something like that?] Unlike McCain, who is directly trying to scare people into not voting for Obama.
Of course, it could be because he's young - compared to most presidential candidates - but he just seems more in touch.
I actually want him to become the next PotUS - far better than your current warmonger.

My grandmother has been saying for a while (jokingly, I hope) that she wouldn't vote for Obama because she likes him too much and doesn't want him to end up dead. And it's because that's always in the back of my mind that I hope to God he doesn't take up a Republican Vice President nominee, like what's been hitting the rumor mill lately. But, then again, guess we just have to wait until November and see how things play out.

Obama's moving more and more to center as we get closer to the election when it comes to his public political opinions, but what he's spouting is, imo, still better than what Bush Jr. Jr. (aka McCain) has in store for us. So I want to see him pledging on that Bible in January as well.
