This work week, with its 10-12 hour days and multiple 911 calls and irate family members and crappy cases and institutional interventions? mostly teh suck. I say "mostly" because, even after all the aggravation and sleep deprivation, by Friday at 4:45pm while powering down my computer and heading for the the most excellent (and NEEDED) of pub meet-ups with a couple of my colleagues I felt like I'd worked my ass off and done great work - saved a life here, scared a family straight there, taught a guy about his meds, made sure a doctor was on the ball...those things aren't listed on my paycheck or job description and my managers are never going to praise me for 'em ("doing my JOB"), but it's satisfying. At least until Monday when I get to find out whether or not things have fallen apart and what I have to do to make them work and/or save my ass. At this moment I am happy. Good times. Now I just want to stay in bed and catch up with all the BigBang fic that I've missed. I have a crapload of windows minimized on my desktop right now.

Also on the happy-making front? One of my brother's current semi-rabid Harry Potter love. Back when the books were still being put out I attempted to get my siblings on my ball but they simply hated to read. I then went to the library and checked out the audiobooks for them. The two youngest ones took to that like whoa, particularly the middle one, and "read" up through the 5th book. RIght before our recent (disastrous) trip to Florida middle bro downloaded the last two books to give himself something with which to occupy his time. Bro can't just listen to Jim Dale read the books to him, he has to follow along with the novel - you end up with this massive kid cradling Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, laughing at times as he's turning the pages, while listening to it on his iPod. Now he's onto Deathly Hallows but I can't find my copy of the novel; right now he's frantically running up and down the house with the jacket in one hand (I always remove the jacket of hardbacks but don't always manage to replace it), cursing the fact that a teaser or summary or preview of some kind isn't on the jacket while trying to find the book. Highly amusing.

Okay, back to the reading.
