Apropos of nothing (as it's playing on the television as I type this): remember the part in Predator when Arnold Schwarzenegger went batshit insane, painted himself in bodyheat-hiding mud and muck (this being where Jim Butcher stole that plot point from The Codex Alera), bobby-trapped the jungle, and then let loose a primal scream before trying to hunt himself a dreadlocked alien? Wasn't that awesome? Isn't it still sort of awesome now?
What also is awesome? My stay in Canada. The days have been busy as hell as
darker_one (Ambassador of Awesome) and I paint the town. We've seen a bunch of museums and have spent a good amount of time up and down, checking out various areas. A more in-depth recap to come when I don't feel like I'm going to keel over and Zzzzzzzzzz on the keyboard, but suffice to say that today we checked out a Shoe Museum that was wonderfully informative and inventive, played a version of Dance Dance and Guitar Hero at the arcade in the foot of the CN Tower, and got to snap pics outside the comedy club that helped birth Kids in the Hall. Tomorrow I head to Barrie, ON to crash at
darker_one's home and get lost in snow drifts.
Canada, as in "Oh (No,) Canada"!: yesterday the first preview of the evening news consisted of a line or two about the devastation in Haiti after the earthquake and subsequent aftershocks (and, Jesus Christ, thinking about the horrors to be found there ... ). The follow-up preview? Laser-Gate, the fallout from spectators flashing a laser pen in the eyes of a pro hockey player. I mean, whatthefuck?
And as to how cold it's been? Tomorrow it's predicted to be 2 degrees (C). I'm thrilled, and might actually attempt venturing outside with only one pair of gloves on.
