I'm of the school of though that addictions are people's harmful attempts to mimic a sort of high or to repress/bring on emotion, a way to fill a hole. And I'm going to combine what you and Garlin have mentioned about food addiction: a, food is an essential item so temptation is everywhere and b, there's no immediate harm from food addition like there is with alcohol or drugs so folks don't pick up on it or others don't think too much about it. Garlin's book gave insight about the comedian but wasn't a "how-to" book, because he doesn't give advice or come out "winning" the battle at the end. It'd still borrow it or wait for a trade rather than put out for the HC if you want to read it.
