Day 4 - Food, glorious food!

Our dining staples. Counterclockwise from the bottom right - green bananas with lime thrown in, a root vegetable mother calls "eddos" (I'm fairly certain she's spelling it incorrectly), yucca and yams, and my typical dinner of chicken sausage, veggies, and chicken broth. The starchy items were being prepared to accompany salt fish (boiled salted cod with onions, tomatoes, and olive oil). I refrain and tend to stick with soups in the evening because salt fish and anything (particularly dumplings) is one of my weaknesses. The emphasis on starches arose, I'd think, from a cost standpoint - those foods were cheaper and easier to obtain. Typically we'd have a meat/chicken protein and then beans, as well as the starches and rice. It surprised me how few vegetables of the leafy variety were in my parent's diet. But that was more than likely related to availability. It's fascinating to look at region cuisine and trace origins of food choices and meal preparation. Do y'all have any particular foods or dishes that you can trace back to your parents homeland?
I honestly didn't incorporate anything new today. I continued the minor tweaks to my routine but didn't have the energy to try anything from my list. This is, in part, because I'm utterly exhausted. The headaches that kick in around midday are no fun at all. Tomorrow is another day.
I worked out for a half hour this evening, washed my hair, and am now ready to sleep until 4:30 when I get to start it all again. Joy. Weekend! (even though I might be working I don't care weekend please come soon amen).
