- Saw Death at a Funeral today. It was a pretty awful movie, one of those films that has lots of preposterous gags and plot "twists" with uncomfortable and borderline (complete judgment call, as I'd say things crossed the border more than once) offensive comedy (oh, look!, Zoe Saldana's being sexually assaulted by Luke Wilson!; oh, look!, homophobic quips!). I did laugh more than once (and felt guilty after each one), but I glanced at my watch and calculated how much viewing time was left numerous times during the second half of the movie. And there was one of those groan-inducing sappy "bringing us all together" endings that made me want to chuck things at the screen. I should have stuck with watching How to Train Your Dragon instead; I will make it my business to watch that film sometime this week.

- Finished the latest Dresden book, Changes. It could have used more Thomas (then again in my book everything can use more Thomas), but it was a fairly solid read. As the title stated, BIG changes went down. And the ending...sweet Lord, Butcher is such a bastard. But I guess I know what everyone's going to pester him about at DCon. BTW - if you've read the book feel free to engage with me in the comments. I just wanted to keep this post free of major spoilers.

- I haven't been watching much television lately. I missed the Glee premiere but will try to catch it on iTunes before the next eppy. I have seen Supernatural more or less on the regular since the midseason premiere and, gotta say, I'm a tad disappointed in the way things are shaping up. Every week it's angst angst angst, like the writers are being taxed to draw things out to 22 episodes. The British model with series running 8-10 episodes at least concentrate things so there feels like there's less filler. And Supernatural was never a very strong show at any rate. Which begs the question: why am I bitching about a fairly weak show being somewhat crappy? To which I respond: but the pretty! So, there. I'd love to see Sam or Dean truly given it and become vessels before the season finale and have things play out that way.

I may go see Death at a Funeral just to see how it compares to the original (also to go oooh pretty at James Marsden and Zoe Saldana) but I'm so not paying money for it.

I see Harry/Murphy as a bit like Booth/Brennan and I've been rooting for them since the beginning and then Butcher goes and does the BIGGEST COCK BLOCK EVER. And yes, everything could use more Thomas.

Totally need to wait for video and/or illegal d/l Death at a Funeral. It makes me sad, because from what I'm hearing this "remake" is fairly close in tone to the original so the original must suck in its own special way. I was wanting to like the Tudyk in it, you know?

I was a fan of Harry/Karen back in the earlier books, but the two of them worked quite well as BFFs with a touch of sexual tension. It was almost to the point where I was a little peeved by Butcher toying with us and letting us think the two of them would start the book a'rockin'. But the gall of that man to end Changes with an actual cliffhanger...! Gah! I don't even care about the literary cockblock, I'm just pissed that Butcher took the title to heart and actually decided to change the way he concluded his books - no neat wrap-up, just drama and fade to black.

I was tempted to get that novella about Thomas Butcher put out last year (Backup I think it's called), but $15 for less than 100 pages? Not even.

I don't know, I quite enjoyed the original but I'd have to see this one to really say if the tone is similar.

Heh I have Backup, I think I got it from amazon for like $8 when it was first released. I love it to bits, oh Thomas.

I can't actually bring myself to care much about the cliffhanger because you know that Butcher isn't going to kill off his main character but yeah a real ending would have been nice.

Having only recently finished the book...

Yeah, the price of Backup has been putting me off, as well. But! Butcher is (finally) releasing a collection of his Dresden-verse short stories, including Backup, this fall. I think I'll just wait for that.

Harry/Karrin: I shipped it at first, but I liked the way he sank that ship earlier in the series - I thought it was realistic and it made sense for the characters. Still, I admit I got a little squeeish at the end of Changes. And then...damn you, Butcher!

That's awesome. He has a number of shorts out there, so it'll be nice to have them all in one book.

And, ugh! That ending. Thinking about it has me metaphorically shaking my fist.
