My brothers were dead-set on seeing Avatar The Last Airbender (because if you refer to it as Avatar James Cameron dispatches blue-skinned assassins), and my personal apprehension and reluctance to do the same couldn't dissuade them. They ended up going to see it last night. I got to speak with them this evening. Youngest bro, who had only been a casual fan of the show, summed it up as "it sucked." Oldest bro, who loved the show hardcore XXL like myself and is usually not the most verbose person, greeted me with a ten minute rant about how godawful the movie was ("this was the first movie I ever wanted to walk out on, and if I hadn't spent [$16.50 per person on four tickets] I would have!") and how it made him want to marathon the TV show to wash away the bad taste in his mouth. I've never seen him so passionately hate on anything in this manner. I wish I could have videotaped his entire dissertation and shared it with you all.

There's a show called Man v. Food that airs on the Travel Channel. On it, a gent named Adam Richman eats food from various dives around the country and takes on one food "challenge," usually eating a very large amount of food or a very spicy highly seasoned small amount of food. The brolets and I generally find the show amusing, but recently I've found myself wondering about Mr. Richman's cholesterol levels and general health; dude has definitely gained at least 30 pounds since S1. He just doesn't look very well most of the time. You'd think they'd find a way to work in a clause wherein he has access to a gym or a personal trainer in between episodes, but I guess not. Poor guy.

So, heat wave. Don't know if anyone's heard about it yet. We're in Day 2, I believe. Subway stations feel like little ovens as one waits for trains to arrive. Subway cars themselves tend to be well air-conditioned. Almost TOO well conditioned, as I find myself almost too cold during my rides to and from work. Strangely enough, I find myself welcoming having a passenger sit next to me during rides. As long as the other people are not plastered directly along one or both of my sides, the bodies of my fellow passengers tend to kick off a comfortable amount of heat when they sit down. Instant warming that makes my commutes tolerable.

Dad's side of the family has organized a family reunion this weekend. I couldn't get the time off during the week from work, and I didn't feel like spending money on round-trip airfare down to Florida for a weekend affair. I'm sure tongues will be wagging about the absence of my brothers and me (the 'rents will make an appearance), but I can deal with the aggravation and continued heat.

Where do the hours of the day go? After going to the gym I get in around 7:30-8pm. I grab dinner, read the papers, shower, and it's suddenly 9:30pm and I'm wrapping things up for my 5:50am wake-up call. I am such an elder person.

My hetero-lifemate is the one introduced me to Avatar, and it's pretty much her favorite show ever. She went to go see the movie this last weekend, and she said it had the worst screenplay she'd ever come across. I don't think I'm wasting my money on it.

Not to mention the acting was pretty awful as well. And it CGI didn't look like it was worth much of anything. Of course, these are all things I took from bro's rant. I adore the show myself. The animated original, that is. I'm feening to marathon it ASAP.

Adam Richman actually does work out a surprising amount, including hitting the treadmill within a couple of hours after the challenges. Sure, that can only do so much, but still.

(Fun fact: the place with the steamed cheeseburgers in the Hartford episode? It's MAYBE two minutes from my house. Were I so inclined, I could probably roll out of bed, downhill, and get there. Oh, and of all the places he went on that episode, precisely one was in Hartford itself. The rest, suburbs (although Meriden's kind of joint custody between Hartford and New Haven).)

I'd hope so. Some of those things are a good 20k cals *easy*. Working out can't do much for the fat content, though. I do hope he's on Lipitor or some statin. Lucky for his heart and less lucky for his digestive tract and stomach lining, most of his recent challenges seem to be heat related. I don't know HOW he tolerates the aftermath of those things. :-/

That steamed burger joint looked interesting, btw. His Seattle show, though, makes me want to head out to that city stat. Those donuts, homg.

This heat wave is killing me. I'm sure it's worse down there, but it's been high-90's up here and I can barely bring myself to leave the house. Ick all around :-(

I remember being disappointed that Avatar had nothing to do with Airbenders, not for my own sake, but for my 14-year-old sister-in-law's.

Yeah, I saw some eps of "Man vs. Food" before we dropped to uber-basic cable. I have a feeling he would have gained that weight with or without the show. The man likes to EAT!

Meh. Hartford's a suburb of Boston, and New Haven is a suburb of NYC. Anything along Metro-North is a suburb of NYC.

(Yeah, I know these are fightin' words. I got enough flack for saying the same about Bridgeport.)
