"De-fault": undoubtedly two of the sweetest words in the English language (thank you, Homer). I won because the person rated higher than me (I got a 4.5...with no comments on content or why my tale didn't rate a 5, which is a little frustrating) submitted last week and they (read: the mods) want to mix things up. Understandable, but it doesn't help on the writing front. Well, I *did* write something and that hasn't happened in a long time, so I guess that's a plus.

My required books for school (which, incidentally, starts on September 7th) come up to $800 dollars. It is the most I've ever spent on textbooks for one term. I have a relative who volunteered to pay for my books, but she didn't know how much they'd cost. My stomach is in knots thinking about the conversation. I'm going to see if I can get a hold of her at work. Just the sort of thing you want to hear when you're working on a ward - "Can I have $800, please?"

I got on the list for tickets to the Daily Show after months of waiting, literally - I submitted my request in FEBRUARY - and I got stuck with September 13th. I mentioned taking my friend [livejournal.com profile] 1x2foralways when she makes her grand return to Joisey and we finally get to chill together, but I'm becoming more and more wary about missing school time: if the experience is anything like the one I went through to go see Conan in HS with getting to the studio, waiting in line, and filing into the studio office I'd have to get there for 3 or 4 PM, meaning I'd have to cut out of classes two or three hours early. Hmm. And that's the day that works best as the first meeting of the book club that I've organized ([livejournal.com profile] nycbookclub; it's my journal I'll pimp out who and what I wish). Part of the reason I'm hesitant to skip out of classes on that day is that I really plan on skipping out of classes when Neil Gaiman comes to NYC for a reading/signing on September 20th. Oh my fracking gods, I want to be there. I'm going to be there, classes be damned. If anyone's coming through the city and wants to come see Gaiman with me...let me know (Psh).

I heart Homer Simpson. *points to icon* See?

I hate the cost of books. That blows.

Oh, and I'm afraid I won't be able to make it to the TDS taping after all. Since my mom and I are driving back, I'm not sure the exact date I'll be back home. But I guarantee there will be plenty of times for us to chill. :o)

Re: TDS - That's cool, seeing as I'm not really sure I'll be going. *grin*

Speaking of the book club, the most recent book I've read was A Million Little Pieces by James Frey. It blew me away. Have you ever read it?

No I haven't. What did you enjoy about it? Is there anything you can compare it to?

Not really. The basic plot is that it's a true story of a guy overcoming his drug/alcohol addiction. It's written in a very honest, blunt way. It's simultaneously one of the most sobering and uplifting books I've ever read.

Sorry, I know that wasn't much help, I guess there's a reason I don't review books for a living!
