-Damn the server move. I am not getting any e-mail notifications from LJ, and that makes it damn near impossible to reply to people. If I haven't replied to a comment you've left me I'm not being rude, I swear! I hope the notifications aren't lost in the cyber-nebula and end up hitting my mailbox whenever HQ is settled in their new location. Is there anyone else dealing with the same thing?

-I watched another episode of "Bob and Rose" today, and it made me all warm and fuzzy inside. I'm not one of those hets who secretly wishes to shack up with a gay man and I can see why different groups would dislike the show and what it features, but "Bob and Rose" has some universal themes about love and standing up. And Russell Davies is like my TV equivalent of Alan Moore - there's nothing he's done that I dislike. I wish LOGO (? or was it BBC America? I forget) would get regular with the airing times.

-Okay, VH1 - "I Love the Holidays"...? Just fucking STOP IT ALREADY.

*

Today was the big unveiling of the Narnia display at the World of Disney store. Since I was running under the assumption that it would be a straightforward reveal and then possibly a few words from the kid stars, I decided to leave my house around 12:30. When I got to the location at 1:30 there was a line outside the door. I was a little peeved at myself for choosing to stay in and watch the end of "Whammy" but, come on! "Press Your Luck" followed by "Whammy" makes for the greatest Saturday morning TV combo evah. I jumped on the end of the line and fretted a little; it seemed as though I was waiting for a signing and I had absolutely nothing for them to sign and absolutely no money to secure anything for them to sign. I asked one of the workers/wranglers, though, and he said we didn't need to present the actors with anything.

Forty minutes of waiting in the cold weather later, and there was a minor ruckus behind me. It turns out the window that was revealed was on the *opposite* side of the store, and since my part of the line was situated directly in the *front* of the store I missed the whole frakkin' thing. I mean, what the frak??? I stifled my displeasure and pulled out my camera in time to snap a pic of the kids as they were being hustled into the store. All I managed to get on film was a blurry pic of the kid playing Peter, William Moseley. He's taller than I thought.

Even though I was worried about the line being massive, there were no more than 35 people ahead of me. Why such a paltry turn out? I don't know. Lack of publicity, perhaps. Less than thirty minutes after the kids were brought inside and seated at the signing table I made my way in front of them. It was very cool to see the actors I'd watched numerous times in vid clips up close and personal. I was struck again by how lovely Anna Popplewell, the girl who plays Susan, looked (I'd seen her briefly during the actor's flight inside the building). I was also struck by how utterly hideous William's Donald Trump-style comb over hairdo looked. I want to be generous and blame it on the wind but there wasn't any to speak of. Can he really be going bald at such a young age? Eh. I managed to get a picture with William, Anna, and Skandar Keynes [Edmund] together, but...poor Lucy. Heh. The actors were autographing posters from the movie and they did it by signing and passing to their left. Anna sat on the far right, then the boys, then 7-year-old Georgie Henley [Lucy] on the far left. The other three breezed through the signing, like you'd expect older children to, but Georgie had to meticulously work at putting down her John Hancock - if you've ever seen a seven year old try to do cursive you'll know what I'm talking about. It was so adorable. The other actors were smiling at the guests and talking occasionally, but Georgie was heads-down signing. I swore I could see the tip of her tongue sticking out the side of her mouth as she put all her concentration on the task. I got a pic of her in profile mid-sign. *grin*

I'd like to say I chatted amiably with the actors, telling them how much I was looking forward to the film and how I'd been watching previews and teasers since early this year, but I found myself a little lost for words. I knew I didn't want to come off as a fool so I just smiled, asked them to come together for a photo, waved, and went on my merry way. It wasn't a bad experience overall. I think seeing William look like that killed my pseudo-lust for him, so that's a good thing. Still can't wait for the movie to come out. Whee!! Two and a half more weeks.

Here are the pics from my venture. Not nearly as many as I wanted, but I work with what opportunity hands me.

Notice Skandar's braces. Hee. And...the comb over - why, William?! I like how willing they were to stop scribbling and pose for me.

William's infinitely cuter in profile, though he still looks much younger than 19. It's nice to know I'm obsessing over someone who's legal, though. Notice Georgie, hard at work.

This is the display window they revealed. It's snazzy, and I'm still pissed about missing the actual revealing. The vid screen underneath the wardrobe plays clips from the movie.

The poster I got signed by the four actors. Apparently it wouldn't have mattered if I'd bought anything, because they were forbidden by their wranglers to sign anything but the posters provided by the store. Notice the heart Georgie put at the end of her name. SO adorable.

I should prolly start studying for my Holistic Nursing test, shouldn't I? *sigh*

There was a server move? Well, that could explain why I thought LJ was running like crap earlier . . .

Thanks. I wish LJ would cooperate enough that it would show more often.

And...Ms. Paquin. Hmm. I'd think you'd at least have some Famke icons, what with your Jean love.

Eh, I didn't like Famke's layered haircut in X2. I like Anna a lot better because she's just a lot cuter and around my age.

ooh! I loooooooove Bob & Rose. That was on here a month or so ago and it was so good. I became quite obsessed with it (mostly because it had Lesley Sharp in it, and I love her) My favourite ep is the second last one I think. Bob's mother says something on tv that had me roaring with laughter.

I haven't seen it in order, so I have no idea what goes where. The last episode I saw was the one where Bob's mom goes to the rally and really gets her flame lit, gets people to stop the bus owned by the homophobic and hatemongering guy. Was that the last episode? It would seem as likely a place as any to wrap up, what with Bob coming to terms with his feelings for Rose and those feelings being broadcast on nat'l television. I need to see if I can rent the DVDs from somewhere.

So very true, my friend. Long live Vince and Stuart! in whatever random Southwestern desert they can be found in.

Dang it; that means I have yet to see the last episode. Well, a local gay channel is playing the show on the weekends now so maybe I'll get a chance to see it in some sort of order when all is said and done.

It's OK,

hon.

Nobody's got e-mail notifications, so even if you were replying, nobody'd pay attention anyway :-D.

I'm dying to watch The Chronicles of Narnia, but it wouldn't get here soon :(.

Actually, the notification problems vary from user to user in a seemingly sporatic and unpredictable fashion. (http://www.livejournal.com/community/lj_maintenance/109015.html) You're the only person out of the 7 who replied to this post that noticed anything out-of-sorts. I hope they fix this up soon, because I'm really missing LJ. The bugginess is getting annoying.

going to download The Chronicles of Narnia, because we download everything, but not before we watch it in the theater.

Not that kind of movie.

Okay, so I was off by a year. (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0608440/) Still, he looks really young. And wasn't Peter something like 14 in the books? He's a hop away from entering Luke Perry on "90210" territory with the whole age thing.

And - hee! I see icon areola!

oooo, neat! It must be great to live where so many cool things happen! Plus, the comb-over thing, lots of English school boys have them. When I lived there I thought it was a country of men who bald early.

ALthough I often don't take advantage of the opportunities it's times like these that I remember that NYC is cool. *grin*

Is the comb-over thing really that common? It's so damn hideous! The English are known for their bad teeth, why do they feel the need to compound the visual problem with bad hair as well??

Aww! Those pics are cool!

I had a problem once with LJ sending me comment notices. That was...oh earlier this year and wasn't related to a server move at all. I guess every once in a while it goes wonky. I actually had to change my email to one of my other email addies...and it worked fine after that.

The kids were really neat. I wish I'd gotten the nerve to *talk* and not just ask them to get together for a pic. *grin*

The comment problem is not just with me. And it's not just with AOL users, unlike what Brad would like us to believe. (http://www.livejournal.com/community/lj_maintenance/109015.html) More than a couple of people are undergoing notification and load-time problems, and they probably can be traced back to the server move and [re]configuration. It's times like these when I realize how much I've grown to depend on LJ for my functioning.

Ah cute. It took me a minute to realize that they were in the film and you weren't hanging out with attractive adolescents. I thought, OMG is this a side I never imagined of Fredericks and jailbait?!?! But no, yer a fangirl. Btw, I have a new entry in my LJ. I thought of you.

I just did lots of typing on a reply re: your Top 10 game list. My excuse is that I'm tired as a mofo.

Yes, I think that I realized later, OMG, she's too young to remember it. But I got all thinking about your old D and D fantasies and it made me think about the adventure game that I liked as a kids. It's like D&D for the unambitious. LOL.

Sorry I've been a little distracted over at the RP, sir. I'll be trying to catch up on things come morning.
