So it's been a horrible week. A horrible week. Joblessness (my usual whining - I'm as tired of it as you are), reading stories about California wildfires, child abusers, terrorism, the episcopalian church thing, the RC policies on sex, blah blah blah. And then some kind soul at Brown's Daily Jolt posts this link for a laugh. Not a Nelson laugh, a regular ole "stupidity of humankind" laugh. Thing is, why am I not laughing? My thoughts (as coherent as I can make them at the moment) are as follows: there's marriage in the church, and then there's marriage as federal/state acknowledgment of the financial coupling of two individuals. If the church doesn't want to allow same-sex marriages, fine. That's their prerogative. But to tell the *state* that civil unions of same-sex couples shouldn't be performed because it is an abomination in the eyes of religious institutions just seems wrong to me. Wasn't there that whole "separation of church and state" thing way back when our nation was getting shakily to its feet?
Argh. Data overload...why am I feeling so out of it?
:/
