Nose to the Grindstone
Sep. 13th, 2004 06:30 pmYet another day at school, yet another day behind. Mondays are always fun, because I have the very humbling Anatomy lab taking up my evening. Last night I attempted to do the pre-lab readings and review questions, but I got distracted. It's weird; if I'm somewhat tired I'll try to do class-related reading and I'll start yawning like crazy, but yet if I pick up, let's say, my brother's latest gaming magazine with the big ole Fable preview (they gave it an 8/10, btw) I'm wide awake. Bonafide procrastinator with a touch of slacker to boot. I ended up calling it a night around 1AM and setting my alarm for 6:30, saying that I would go to Starbucks and try to do as much work as I could in the two hours or so before my first class. I'd been worrying about two things: my falling behind on my Lit class' required weekly response papers (due to my belief that they had to be really really formal things, a debunked belief, seeing as the Professor doesn't really give feedback on them so I don't think it really matters if quotes and such are included), and whether or not we had to hand in lab write-ups for Anatomy (found that out to be a no; we just get tested every fourth week or so on what we've done). So, yup, problems resolved. I'm planning on making up my two Yahoo posts for Lit while here at Hunter (I'm currently in the computer lab; if I go home I know I'll just start falling asleep on myself) and then, you know, go home. Missing rush hour, thank goodness.
We have to do a term paper in Lit. While we were going over the related handout the professor passed around today I came upon the idea to do gay and lesbian characters and their portrayals in mainstream comics from 1970 - today. This idea came, in no small part, from the ever elusive
quenya_tattoo's Northstar...obsession? fascination? I can't quite find the right word at the moment.*grin* Michael's Novotny's nerdy fan input also played a role, as well as my realization a while ago that Mystique was gay (I should say "bisexual", but that's something I'll quibble about while writing my paper). I was all "She's what? With Destiny? Of all people??" They sort of played that subtle back in the 80's. Anywho, I feel good about my choice. Let's see if Prof. approves.
Heh. Got around to finally formally introducing myself to
urbanspell. Poor thing, being subjected to me. I was a tired, uber-caffeinated, babbling mess by the time I got around to the Admissions Office to drop off my form. He's too polite to put anything like that in his LJ, though. *grin*
Okay, I'm going to stop procrastinating and start writing my responses.
Right...now.
