fredericks: (IRod - Starman!)
My tuition refund is slowly making its way to my account. I was pretty psyched about the whole thing until I sat down and drew out a budget for the next five months. Turns out that if I play my cards right, allowing for monthly credit card and phone payments, I'll have a little more than $300 to dole out until my birthday in June. Since my folks have shown themselves willing to help me out with a little money here and there as needed I'm not going to be hurting for cash, but having to lean on them after making my way through college (the first time *snort*) without having to ask them for any spending cash hurts the ego.

Mom is trying out for another position at work, one that pays slightly more than the one she's at currently. She has to train to see if she passes the qualifying test and part of that training involves memorizing the postal codes for all the countries in the world. She's supposed to be using flash cards to help her along but she's yet to actually sit down and work on the things as far as I can tell. Perhaps she studies them at work, who knows? Last night I tried to rally her to get cracking because I know how much she wants the job. Unfortunately she's also become addicted to computerized Solitaire (the solitaire addiction is a normal one for computer newbies, I find; she only really started using a computer three or four months ago). I went down to the PC and said "okay mom, come on, you've got to study". She said "yeah, I'm coming" while completely engrossed with the cards on the screen. I waited a couple of beats then headed back from whence I came, with her cry of "I lost!" following me. I don't know if she ever got around to working on that stuff last night. Damned computers.

Originally my aunt and I were going to see a play today. I was miffed the day she'd managed to snag tickets for was Superbowl Sunday, but the more I heard about the show ("Lenny and Lou") the more it sounded like raunchiness I might like. Now it seems as though our play is off and I'll be spending a good part of the afternoon preparing Superbowl cuisine for the masses as she's going to have an impromptu party by her house. I just want to sit down and finish my homework. And freak out over tomorrow's clinicals for good measure.

I've heard nothing from the school paper people about the feature piece I did. You know (and, honest-to-God, I tilted my head to the side and raised an eyebrow right before I typed that...I require serious help), I would be okay with this if the staff of the paper wasn't made up of kids, the same sort of clique-ish kids I avoided during my undergraduate years. Talk about an unwelcomed flashback. I will see what happens, though. Drop her another e-mail. I would expect that if the writing is subpar you're at least professional enough to tell the writer so, and why.

It's such a lovely February afternoon. I expect a snowstorm to hit in the next two weeks.

ETA - For the Battlestar Galactica fans on my FL, little bits of humor I found over on TWoP.
1. The Cylon, an homage to one Edgar Allen Poe.
2. [livejournal.com profile] bsg_comicses
3. There was a take off on "Lazy Sunday" that I simply cannot find anymore. I think [livejournal.com profile] rwarner might find it amusing. Anyone know where it is? or I do have to hunt?
