fredericks: (Being Veep is hard work *snore*)
On the room front - the ceiling and walls are donedoneDONE. The ceiling's a light green and the walls are a darker light green. I like it, shoddy spackling jobs and all. I would have started on the trim around the windows but I managed to use the entire roll of tape and couldn't find a ride to the Depot for more. The trim around the ceiling and the baseboards still has to be painted, but I figured the baseboards at least could wait until the carpet was pulled up. Bro and I finished that dusty task a little while ago. I'd thought the carpet was covering crappy maroon-colored wood slats, but was surprised to find actual wood paneling. Surprised, and then discouraged, because real wood calls for sanding and varnishing, and I have to go back to work in two one day. After whimpering my way through the painting I want to hire someone to do the floor for me. I should also get someone to put trim around the window panes and get a new ceiling fan. Fuck, man!; all this work was supposed to make it possible for me to put my damn furniture up and call it a day, but I keep finding crap that needs doing. I just want my space back so I can sit in it and start writing, but nooooooooo, I had to pretend I was Bob Villa. *sigh*

Tomorrow I have to go to work and pick up my schedule (I left a message on my manager's machine asking her to give me my schedule for next week over the phone as I wouldn't be in until Saturday, but she's yet to return my call; I have mentioned I'm none too fond of my workplace, right?), get loan repayment paperwork signed, get new passport photos done (word back from the Passport agency is that my passport was not sent back to them as undeliverable, they consider it lost, and I have to submit two addition photos for the processing of a new passport), and drop stuff off at the post office.

We went to Xanadu Wednesday evening. So much fun. Cheyenne was MIA, and even though his replacement was shorter (dude was maybe a half-inch taller than Kerry while she was wearing the rollerskates, and she is one *small* lady) and not nearly as heartthrob worthy, the performances were still great. I got to shake my glowstick and groove thang during Xanadu, to the point where one of the cast members told me everyone should move like me. I have a lot of groove to shake, what can I say?

And I finished a book! One I hadn't read before! Outside of the bookclub, no less. Hero by Perry Moore, which I'd picked up after reading the review in EW. I got a kick out of the premise (the son of a non-super superhero comes to grips with his superpowers and his sexuality), and the action. The comic geek in me found laughs in the blatant tranposition of DC characters (Wonder Woman, a Superman/J'onn J'onzz hybrid, and a slightly less screwed up Batman make appearances). The ending was a bit too abrupt for my taste, the "surprises" are anything but, and the father/son relationship got ironed out quite quickly, but a fast, interesting, and engrossing read. I closed the back cover and wished for a sequel.

Man, I'z pooped. Need more vacation, dammit.
