This week

fredericks: (Being Veep is hard work *snore*)
I feel like I'm (badly) paraphrasing either Chris Rock or Dave Chappelle here, but...you know how when an addict's easy access to his/her substance of choice becomes hindered said addict suddenly develops MacGuvyer-like powers of ingenuity? So if, say, crack was only available on the moon all of a sudden there'd be a LOT of very dedicated twitching astrophysics-in-training? My internet's been on the fritz since Tuesday, and I've been patching it together ever since with bubblegum, a paper clip, and my tears. I'd wanted to post an update a couple of days ago, but connectivity in the house has been sporadic at best. But, hey!, my mad haphazard finagling seems to have worked. Some, anyway. Internetz! I love you!

*ahem* Right then.

[livejournal.com profile] paradise_city is a wonderful enabler and gifted me with my OTP of milk and cookies! Milk/cookies is totally making my profile page a better place! (It should be obvious that I'm tweaking off of my internet access at this point.)

I got to hang out with LJ friends new and old this week. [livejournal.com profile] atraxia came up to visit and I met with her and [livejournal.com profile] sternel for dinner on Thursday. In the middle of Friday's utter insanity at work I got to spend part of my lunch hour with the lovely [livejournal.com profile] anoel where we waxed fannish about everything and anything.

Friday evening bro and I went to see Iron Man 2. LOVED IT. Yes, there were dropped plot lines and teasers, yes, parts of the story seemed only to set up for the upcoming Avengers movie, and yes, Don Cheadle somehow managed to get out-acted by Scarlett Johansson (!), but Robert Downey Jr. was hilarious and the movie was a bundle of fun wrapped in explosions. It's a typical summer movie: leave your logic at the door and you'll be right as rain.

Now I'm all bouncy because I'm counting down to my birthday cruise. As of today we're thirty days out. The experience is probably going to be nutso because of all the family that's accompanying me, but at least I'll get a breather from work craziness for a couple of days. And I'll hit three decades; I should get, like, a watch or something.

At the moment I've taken a break from The History of White People and have started Kate Griffin's A Madness of Angels. I'd been looking for something as engrossing as Mike Carey's Felix Castor series while perusing the sci-fi/fantasy section. Angels has as slow of a beginning as Devil You Know and that's styming my progress, but I do hope things pick up a bit.

Lastly, a request: please give me some recommendations for workout music. Need some more tunes for my 'pod.
