fredericks: (Southpark Me.)
This w/e has seemed productive because I made it my business to get up and out of the house before 9am both days. Which would explain why I want to roll over and take a nap right now (can't, as we're planning a trip to Trader Joes in a few; otherwise? soooo with the Zzzz's).

I've been engaging in positive self-talk. Or, rather, making it my business to do so when confronted by my own inherent negativity. It's cut down on the worrying and self-denigration a little, particularly when I pull out logic and figure out that, hey, I busted my ass and I worked hard so [there!, stupid brain!] I must have done my best. It's worked somewhat, but I'll most likely always be my worse critic.

Something I forgot to mention the other day: remember all my woez! in regards to finding a therapist? Well, after the one day of failed attempts I just never bothered again, figuring I'd chalk the experience up for a loss. However, this past Thursday I got a call back from the therapist on whose phone I'd left a voicemail. Turns out that a) she has an office about three blocks away from my job (I'd initially been searching for therapists closer to my home), and b) she has an opening for Mondays in the early evening. So, total score! She sounded nice enough over the phone; didn't pester me with the "why do you need to visit?" question, and aside from inquiring about my insurance kept our telephone encounter brief yet encouraging (to me, at least). This Monday is the first visit, and I hope she doesn't disappoint.

I finished Under The Dome Friday. After turning the last page I was initially underwhelmed, but I found I liked it a little more once I pulled back and analyzed from the (somewhat heavy-handed) "mankind as ants" view. I think King's narrative voice choice was aces for overall story. But overall it still read like a hybrid of The Stand and The Mist (did anyone else picture Barbie as Thomas Jane) and, even though I enjoyed the hell out of those stories, I wished for a little bit more. I'm a greedy and needy Constant Reader, what can I say? One good thing? no more lugging around that massive book. Not sure what I'll read next, although I did start The History of White People this morning.
