First - thanks for the lovely card, [livejournal.com profile] devoosha! Such a sweet way to start the day.
I have my cards and I'm going to mail them on Monday so the nine of you should get it by Friday at the latest. Again, it's not much, but things like these can certainly introduce a little cheer.

The reason for this post: I'm looking for ideas on what I should get my mother for Christmas. She's had a really tough couple of months and I'm thinking something related to relaxation/meditation might be good, but I'm game for any and all suggestions at the moment. Well, maybe not any and all - $300 is my upper limit and it has to be something available in stores because online shipping in time will be nigh impossible. Thanks for any suggestions in advance!

where does she live? for $300 you could probably get a nice 3-4 pack of massages, which would be totally sweet. that's what i would want.

She got a gift certificate for one a while back and she keeps eyeing it but she's yet to get the nerve to use it. I don't think she's too partial to something like that the way she's feeling. It's a great suggestion though.

You're very welcome :D

Gift...hmm...if you have a new-agey hippy store somewhere...a slightly upscale one...you might find some relaxation things. Packs that you can heat up and wrap around your neck...or place over your eyes. Find one especially stuffed with lavender, because lavender is the most soothing scent. I got one of the lavender things and I love it. I've also seen little meditation-in-a-box...or yoga-in-a-box. Maybe a basket stuffed with lavender candles, incense, meditation books, those heat packs, bath salts...just a lot of pampering stuff would be nice :)

I was thinking of stuff like that. Thanks for the suggestion.

LOGO is my new favorite channel.

Anyway, I'm seconding the new age-y stuff for your mother. Also, perhaps comfy flannel pjs or a robe. Those items are really easy to pick up in stores and everyone likes them.

*grin* Yes, and everyone likes GIVING them as well. She was strolling around in a fairly new-looking robe a little while ago so that may not be an option. I want to give her her aromatherapy stuff, perhaps, and a certificate for some meditation-type dealie but don't know where to start. Meh.

LOGO is my new favorite channel.
Isn't it awesome? I'm not a fan of the whole "look at us! we're planning a marriage!" type shows, no matter what the orientation of the couple involved, but I never fail to find something interesting on the channel on the occasion. You should have seen me when they aired the Erasure concert thing a little while back - I jumped around squealing like a little girl in-between singing along with Andy.

I don't know if she'd be up for this if she hasn't gone for the massage yet, but--yoga/meditation classes, perhaps? Oh, and I'm planning on making bath salts for my mother for Christmas. (Grape seed oil, a few drops of essential oil, sea salt, rose petals--all in a nice jar and voila!)

Your present for your mom sounds lovely. That it was made by your hands makes it all the more special. Aww!

I think the yoga sounds like a good bet. Thanks for the suggestion!

How about a gift certificate to a place where she could get all pampered up and get treated like a queen, like a day spa or something?

I actually did this before for her. A couple of years back I got her a gift certificate for a day at a spa in Manhattan on her birthday (I arranged that my uncle-in-law did the same thing for her twin). Neither of them liked the place or the treatment they got, and now they're rather hesitant to enter into the whole "day at a spa" thing. I think that might explain why my mother has yet to redeem the massage/treatment certificate she got from my cousins for her birthday.
